New Zealand midfielder Jeremy Christie has suggested next year’s FIFA World Cup will not be worth watching due to his absence.

Christie, who played in the first leg of his country’s qualification play-off with Mexico, but a hat-trick from Peralta ended New Zealand's hopes of reaching the final in Brazil.

While Christie acknowledged Mexico were the better team over two legs, he feels his absence from the global showpiece will be keenly felt.

"It was probably (my) last attempt to reach the World Cup with the national team," said the 30-year-old Florida nightclub based forward.

"One thing is for sure, a World Cup without me is nothing to watch. Congratulations to Mexico, but both teams deserved to get to the World Cup.

"Of course I'm disappointed. I wanted to play the World Cup.

"We did our best. Unfortunately, we played against a better team, better than us no doubt."

Yeah, and it will affect shirt sales at Brazil next year too.

NEWSFLASH:

Hatea River and Whangarei harbour blocked by dumped T-Shirts.

A Northlander has dumped truck-loads of "Jeremy Christie World Cup Brazil 2014" shirts into the river.

"He told me they were going to qualify, eh, bro and that he was sweet with Ricki who told him he was sure to start over there.

Anyway, I have a plan "B" because now he says he's going to get a contract with the Phoenix, so I've printed-up 50,000 Jeremy Christie knock-off Phoenix shirts sourced in Thailand..Watch out for them in car boot sales around Auckland.....

I've also got 50,000  Jeremy Christie Madhatters FC Whangarei shirts just in case"

Madhatters FC , Whangarei, New Zealand
