NZ Football at it again jobs for the boys making Tommy Smith set piece coach, bad enough they topped up his retirement fund by sending him to the WC know this.
has got to be someone more deserving of this than him.

I’m trying to think of the last time that Tommy scored from a set piece for us?

Basically he is Chris Woods coffee/beer drinking buddy on tour.

Hopefully it is a merit based role he has got. Smith only scored twice for the AWs (last time being 2014). But I do remember him scoring a few from corners for the Colorado Rapids when Hudson was their coach. Quick search says 7 goals in 60 MLS games.

And of course it is likely a job as much about defending from dead balls, as trying to score from then.

With Barba and likely Boxy soon gone from the All Whites, not many of the squad going forward will be of Wood's 'era'.
Thomas, Crocs & maybe Payne? He'll naturally gravitate to older guys in the setup like him who are also dads etc.

If the Woodsman is happier in the AWs environment having his long time mate Smith still around, have no real issue with that. Ideally we want Wood playing for the national team for a few more years yet, maybe all the way to 2030.

Really it's the sort of role Tommy should have had Stateside back in June, with Stanger on the plane for the experience.

Lots of ex pros go into coaching.

Hes had a good career and is respected. If hes got some qualifications too, I dont see an issue.

At this rate mate if the Woodsman is happier having Baz in the AW’s environment then we are going to have a lemon coach for the next 4 years.

Lol 🤣 🤣 🤣frickin lovin it!

At this rate, I'm shocked Boxie isn't insisting his Mom be Kit Manager. She is definitely more qualified than Tommy "Culture Club" Smith.

Baze cost Bill Tuiloma his place and the Nix some party dosh and now his costing the FA with this appointment. Hello NZF is there anyone at home?

At least Woodsy happy :) 🤣

Doesn't mean they are any good. Take Rory, pants here in the UK as a coach.
Supporter of the world's best football teams: Waikato..., Kingz FC, NZ Knights, The Nix, The Argyle & of course the All Whites

As Smith was at the WC not as a player but as some sort of vibes and defensive guru then it didn’t actually work out that great. We were pants in defense making repetitive blunders and letting in some goals we really should have defended. We conceded 10 goals in the WC. And we conceded these types of goals all through the buildup. I am  strongly in the jobs for the boys camp. Smith was a great pro but there is a limit. Baze had his chance, he couldn’/didn’t know how to fix our defense. Time for some fresh blood before the next WC
