Some interesting comments from Killen re the Fiji trip and difficulties of playing for All Whites in this story from the Herald in Scotland. be interesting to see if he makes it back for vanuatu

"Killen flew to Fiji to play for New Zealand during the last international break, but his country's World Cup qualifier was postponed due to a visa row. The match was eventually played the following weekend, but it highlighted the many frustrations involved in representing his country.

"It was a bit of a nightmare. I flew 11,000 miles to get home and the first game was called off. It took three planes, 24 hours in the air and a 32-hour round trip. There's two games in next month's international window. The New Zealand manager understands that it is sometimes not feasible to go back for friendly games.

"If there's a chance of me playing for Celtic, then it's not worth the journey to play in a game which might not even happen.

"But the forthcoming games are World Cup and Confederations Cup qualifiers."

sounds like he did a decent enough job alone up front against benfica - and he did hold onto his starting spot for the next game, the 3-0 overnight win against Motherwell. He and Mcdonald played - mcdonald got 3, but sounds like Killen went alright again from match reports.

yeah, aside from the financial cost, problems planning ahead (eg. olympic hosting withdrawal), and having to play fiji on a nuetral ground  - Peters and co are also potentially f**king up our chances of getting players like Killen and Nelsen back

aaarrrgghhh!

Killen was useless against benfica

that's not the consensus - i saw one report that said he was poor and others that said he did a v good job playing on his own and given celtic didnt get anyone forward

didnt see it myself

but manager gave him a start next game - when he certainly didnt have to

Based on the Fiji game, surprisingly enough no.

(obviously we know Killen has better in him).

He got a great review from the Celtic manager for his performance on Saturday. One of the local Glasgow papers is saying that Killen's perfomances are showing that he's not Vinegar of Heffelump's (or whatever his name is) understudy any more and is pushing to be a regular starter. Might put the link to the article up late if I can be bothered!

There you go, contrary to our customary editorial policy a little bit, but I've put up two Killen stories on the frontpage to go with this thread.
