Kiwi team based around the Polytechnic club will be competing in this years London Inner City World Cup in Regent's Park on the 6th and 7th.  Few forumites will be stepping up including myself, Frankie Mac and betters plus a few names that might be familiar, Geoff Brown, Jeremy Seales, Hayden Englefield, Justin Flaws, James Webb, Luke James and Nik Payne.

32 countries are represented in 8 4 team groups with the format the same as the football world cup.  Three hour long group games on Saturday with up to 4 games on Sunday (if we make it that far).  Hoping to go further than the quarters where we have been knocked out the past 2 years.  We've drawn Mauritius, Bangladesh and Argentina with potential second round showdown against France, Iraq or the Bahamas.

If anyone is keen to get along our Saturday games are at 11.15, 12.30 and 4.15.

it was that tournament in 2000 (i think?) that got me interested in 'ethnic' or community football-great concept- nicked it for Culture Kicks

Good luck- feedback on how they run it (what works, what didn't) would be appreciated

End of day 1 and we topped our group to go through to the second round.

Results from day 1, beat a niggly Argentina 3-0, Geoff Brown with a hat-trick, all penalties. Stand out was the disgraceful off the ball fouling from the opposition, keeper Hayden Englefield flattened while clearing a routine throw out a prime example.

An unfortunate 1-0 loss to Mauritious next up, we made a lot of changes, conceded in th first minute and battled back but couldn't score. Cam Jones hit the bar and Jeremy Seales had a very late equaliser cleared off the line.

Needing a win in the last game against Bangladesh to progress we got off to the worst possible start conceding a penalty within the first five minutes. Hayden mad a fantastic one handed stop high to his right but the rebound was forced in. The deshis needed only a draw to progress so the brakes went on the match, but Geoff Brown produced two great strikes to see us go in up at the half. Brownie scored again after an unselfish pass from Ginger Brown Jnr to complete his hattrick, this time from open play. Hobbit Bryan Batty and some other dude completed the rout. We play Iraq tomorrow with a potential QF against Argentina or France (a quirk of the draw). The stand out memory of the day was Frankie Macs comedy miss from six yards minutes after putting out his cigarette to be subbed on. He claimed a bobble, the facts ruled otherwise...

Unfortunately the histrionics, complaints to the referees and off the ball fouls were the enduring memory of the day, bangladesh were partuclarly culpable and we were a happy side knocking them out in the process. More updates tomorrow.
