Yet again, it's a NZ team triumphing at the Manchester United Premier Cup Pacific finals.

Waitakere City beat Sutherland Sharks 1-0 in the Final on the weekend of the tournament hosted by Western Sydney Wanderers:

Waitakere City  won 1-0 after extra time in a tense game against Sydney, that saw Waitakere goalkeeper Michael Wood save a penalty in the first half.

Waitakere conceded no goals in the tournament but scored only eight, whilst  beaten finalist Sutherland Sharks scored 18 and conceded two)

Waitakere City now represent Australasia at the Manchester United Premier (Nike) Cup Final in Manchester later this year

Will there be any transfers between now and then?

Are they allowed?

Not being mean, but I'd be happy to see us stack this side (make it a quasi u15 NZ team) and send them across. Would help result wise and maybe help one or two players to stand out and get trial opportunities etc.

Not allowed.

Sounds like a game won with some good old Kiwi backs-to-the-wall defending.

Incredible stamina. No shame. Yellow Fever.

Real Madrid-style. Suck 'em in then catch 'em on the break.

So what stops us from kicking on at the older level and continue beating these Aussie teams? Or have things changed recently? [looking for more knowlegable people than I to respond]

The questions for me would be:

1) are we sending teams technically better than the aussies? tactically better? or just physiologically (bigger, stronger, faster) better?
2) if they are technically or tactically better at U/15 what happens to them from here? (do they turn to sh*t or are the aussies just better at developing older teens)
3) is this a sign of the times and we're actually gunna be better off than Aussie? (I'm not so sure of that being the case)

Don't get carried away by results in a cup style competition.

About the only thing you can say with certainty is that we can compete with Australian teams at a club level on our day.

You can't extrapolate much further.

For example. The odds are that this young waitak side has a couple of lads who will at least play age group football for NZ. The Aussie club teams they played almost certainly can't say the same.

There are loads of factors.

It's not logical to say "oh we progressed through this club tourney so the all whites will beat Australia in a few years."

But that doesn't mean it isn't encouraging.

Incredible stamina. No shame. Yellow Fever.

Solid effort.

Good to see we scored a couple goals. We often only manage 0-0 all draws at these events.

Will be keen to hear if any one stood out and impressed.
