The BBC is reporting that Motherwell have agreed to sign Michael McGlinchey - an attacking midfielder from world cup bound New Zealand.

The 23 year old was born in Wellington but was brought up in Scotland and made one substitute appearance for Celtic in 2005. He had a loan spell at Dunfermline before being released from Celtic in May 2009. He joined A-league side Central Coast Mariners on a two year deal.

He has represented Scotland at U19 and U21 level but changed his allegiance to New Zealand and was rewarded with a call up to their national squad for the World Cup play-off against Bahrain. He then earned his first cap when New Zealand faced Jordan in September 2009.

The BBC report suggests that he'll join us in the second week of next month and that a prime reason for the move is to keep him match fit until the World Cup in June. He'll be with us until the end of the season. The profile on the Central Coast Mariners website suggests he weighs in at a lightweight 68Kg and is 175cm tall.

I agree - CCM may well only have 3 games left, and McGlinchey has been on the outer recently.

4-4-2 reporting that this move may fall through, looks like CCM want to keep him until they know 100% whether they are in the finals or not.

Could still go through after the weekend's results.

Incredible stamina. No shame. Yellow Fever.

Can they release him today? Normally if 31 January falls on a Saturday or Sundey they allow business to conclude on the Monday after 31 Jan.

WELL CAPTURE McGLINCHEY

Motherwell have signed New Zealand international Michael McGlinchey on loan.

The former Celtic youngster will link up with the first team at the beginning of next week and be available for the visit of Clydesdale Bank Premier League leaders Rangers on February 10.

The 22-year-old midfielder has joined from Australian side Central Coast Mariners and is looking to secure his place in New Zealand's World Cup squad.

McGlinchey's signing was confirmed hours after the departure of 18-year-old winger Paul Slane to Celtic.

"We're delighted Michael is coming in and he'll give us more attacking options down the flanks," manager Craig Brown told his club's official website, www.motherwellfc.co.uk.

"He's got a good pedigree having come through the ranks at Celtic and then on to Australia where he has played regularly for Central Coast Mariners, as well as winning three caps for New Zealand this season.

"His arrival will give the squad and the fans a wee boost going into a difficult and congested period for the club."

Brown could supplement his squad beyond the transfer deadline, with full-back Danny Spence on trial after being released by Reading.

"We've arranged a bounce game for Danny and we'll have a look at him there and in training," Brown confirmed.

"He's been recommended to us by a number of people so we'll see what he's like. It's certainly not a done deal as has been reported in certain quarters."

Slane's departure was met by "extreme disappointment" by chairman John Boyle after persistent attempts to persuade the winger to sign a new contract.

"Paul has been at the club for six years and we have financed his development and nurtured his talent, culminating in his senior debut at the end of last season," Boyle said.

"We have also stuck by and supported him over those years through both personal issues and injury and felt we were due some degree of loyalty for our efforts.

"Sadly, he has chosen to refuse our offers and move on to Celtic."

Motherwell had more interest in several young players but they rejected a loan offer for Bob McHugh from an Irn-Bru First Division club.

Darren Smith and Jonathan Page both turned down loan moves to Stirling Albion in a bid to fight for a first-team place but Brown added: "Players from the SPL can go out on loan after the transfer window so there's no real pressure of time there."

Its no longer a problem.
