poofy is a subset to gay the same way macho is to hetro. both interchange. neither have anything to do with where your instrument goes. its purely about behaviour

So if i walked up to one of these said friends in the street and said 'hey man, youre a bit poofy'... they wouldnt take offence?

everyone takes offense if strangers come up to them and say hey man you're a bit
loud
macho
snaggy
emo
etc etc

and you're off the point. All I'm saying is that poofy isn't the most evil of words and isn't necessarily slagging off the whole of gay time. Laws is a dick no matter which way he meant it but saying it doesnt mean he is a homophobe

people often call me goth and sometimes I use it myself whn describing to strangers how to recognise me. but I'm not the slightest bit goth - hate the music - are happy and positive and often perky. I simply look that way & its easier not to worry if people say yeah SK's a goth stealthkiwi2010-07-22 14:30:09

Guys, guys, guys, this is what he wants us to do. Laws is trying to tear us apart!

Seriously, I do think the term poofy is derogatory. The word poof is almost always used in a negative way, implying that to be gay is something bad. Poofy evokes the same meaning, to me anyway.

hes saying southland players will lose because they all act gay and have gel in their hair. its using the term poof in a derogatory way toward gays much the same as the N word. if you came out and said a gay rugby player was useless because of his sexuality or because you think they 'acted gay',you would be shot. all he has done is replace the word gay with poof.

Exactly. Little wonder why so few players come out during their playing career when this stone age mentality still exists.

& all I'm saying is I personally don't think if a person is a poof they must be gay. must just be the way I see the word. to me gays come in all flavours and straight guys can be poofy/snaggy/effete

and as the person I'm 100% sure has watched the most gay porn of anyone on here lol there are some uber muscled - fit young men in this world who might prefer hard glutes to soft pecs but you sure wdn't want to meet them in a scrum because you'd end up mincemeat

& on the topic of gay porn... it sure does resemble mma

i see what you are saying but its still a derogatory term toward gays. by your logic i can say the N word doesnt necessarily mean you're dark skinned, its a behaviour thing,so i can call people it. its ok in banter between friends, but you wouldnt write a public article about it would you. i actually cant believe he isnt being persecuted for it like the 'darkies' comments, this is actually worse than that in my opinion. guess gay slurs are more appropriate than race ones.

its a derogatory term towards gays because you believe it means gay - as you personaly think its a slurr term about homosexuals then thats how you read it. thats what i meant earlier about giving the word power. poofy to mean means soft - not gay. its still a stupid term but as I don't see it as summing up homosexuals its no stupider than saying someone for instance Buffy is slow. I'm not using slow to put down the entire people with disabilities universe. just using it to put down someone who prob has a brain but doesn't use it

but its clearly accepted as being that, its how the word came about. he may not be saying theyre gay,but hes saying they act like a stereotype of what a gay person is because thats how the word came to be - a derogatory term, much like the N word. with that in mind, think about what he has gone and said in a public publication.

You will here the reference to 'n"s a lot.

I'm looking forward to finding out more about this woman who has had "life experiences that were completely different to my own". So she's an intelligent rational woman?

He may be a dick but by the sound of it he doesn't deserve whats coming. He wasn't in a relationship with anyone else, he was in a consensual relationship with this woman, he sent what sounds like will be fairly graphic messages, and some bitter bitch who has now been spurned is releasing them to the scumbag tabloid media to print in full.

On the face of it, it doesn't seem to have any news value except for the fact that he is a public person.

(And yes I realise that the Herald on Sunday is technically a broadsheet, but this just goes to show that I am correct in my belief that all our media are tabloid scum.)

I am prepared to be proved wrong by what will come out on the weekend, but at the moment from what I have heard I am underwhelmed.aitkenmike2010-08-13 19:25:47

You're right. Graphic messages between 2 consenting adults, definetly not newsworthy and seems a massive beat up.

But why is he saying he regrets doing something? Makes me think there is more to the situation if he feels the need to apologise for something.

Its definetly a beat up though, there won't be much more to it.

Hilarious! Sounds like Laws has done a great job of stitching himself up.

http://www.stuff.co.nz/national/4024116/My-affair-with-pushy-Laws

Michael Laws obviously thinks everyone else operates by his own bottom-feeding standards and so he naturally assumed the worst case scenario.

Nothing in it really but he's made himself look like a bit of a clown.

Meh. Considering how quick Laws is to drag people through the coals, any misfortune that befalls him is deserved, and I shall laugh accordingly. Does sound like a beat-up, but it couldn't happen to a nicer guy.

And AitkenMike - The HoS is a tabloid (in size and content!)

Ah, didn't realise that. Have never bought it so assumed it was the same as the Herald.
