Can't create a poll in the other section...

Disappointing we couldn't pull off the draw. Fallon really should of got a goal, played well though. We need to capitalise on his aerial prowess more. For me standouts were Elliott and Killen. Both had good games I felt. I will give it to Elliott though. Reid showed good signs, his strength was quite good however his passing at times seemed a bit off. Smith impressed aswell I felt, should push Lochhead.

EDIT: Maybe one of the admins can move it to the other section?wellyphoenixfan2010-05-24 23:41:32

Who the hell voted for Paston??? I seriously think people try and frame me. Paston was alright tonight, good for his first game back.

One of the best games I've seen Brown play for NZ and he got forward too which was great but Simon was our best player today, just a pity he was not able to shoot off his right foot at the open goal in the first half.

Wasn't me- I voted Elliott, although agree if Leo had lasted the match and kept playing as well as he did, might have been him. Killen also I thought played really well.

I did think Paston played well though- those two punched, one-handed clearances were good- good distance on both. I did wonder if he hesitated on the second goal, but watching replay, don't think he was at fault. Took a few high balls nicely as well- good all round game, especially for first one back.

Not his biggest fan, but I though Fallon was immense tonight. Elliot and Killen both good aswell, as was Brown in that first half.

I'd pretty much go with that except slide Brown in there above Nelsen

Brown and Leo were terrific in that first half - really feel sorry for them (especially Leo)

Elliott was amazing as well - where is that whoooooo idiot? Finally he will be shut up for good. Thought he played better with Brown next to him.

Fallon won basically everything in the air. Was a monster. Killen very good in that first half as well and could've had a 2nd.

All in all I don't think many of the guys put steps wrong tonight and they should all be pretty proud of the way they played.

Elliot was brilliant,so gave it to him.
Biggest let down - Winston Reid
worst player - Andy 'did some degrading things to make the squad' Boyens
One to watch at the WC: Killen

Allegedly

I must be stupid as sh*t when it comes to football... the commentators were saying Elliot was great, you guys are saying he was great, i thought he was average. He had a brain fart which lead to the ball through to Vidosic who scored, his shooting was woeful, and while he put the odd good ball through he put a few nothing balls through as well.

I thought Killen was at fault for that one.
Paston was quality for a first game back, didn't really do anything wrong, Tommy Smith was great at left wingback and Reid looks the goods, although he probably needs another go at right back.
I thoughr Elliott was quality, but we saw that at the Confed cup too, he's easily got the coolest head and the best passing range of anyone in the side and was even matching up well athletically.
WeeMac looked good, would have liked to see him play behind two strikers, same with Clapham. Boyens doesn't look to me like a wingback, but it's a pretty significant position change, and he deserves a little more time there.
Based on last night, Wood > Smeltz, and I think Brockie looked great and should see more time out wide.
Next game, I'd like to see this;

                            Paston

                Nelsen     Boyens/Vicelich/Siggy
Reid/Boyens                                                Smith

                               Elliott

 Bertos                  WeeMac              Brockie

                          Wood
                                 Fallon

With Christie, Mulligan and Clapham all getting plenty of gametime.

Striker Killen!

Killen was great - He almost pulled off a beauty with that second chance! He's definitley going to be a danger man -

Elliot was really good in the middle and if he can get his shots on target who knows - I like to think that he's getting the big misses out of his system...

Paston was really good and controlled everything in the air. The Aussie finishes were good - although they had quite a bit of luck in getting to those chances really. A deflection back for the first goal and both final-whistle and potential off-side issues for the second.

Leo - was looking good while he still had two legs working. Glad he is OK.

Hard to pick a MoM really, there were lots of good efforts out there.

Fallon and Killen did well and loved Fallons confidence to have a go with that volley from distance, wasn't far over. However, should have buried that "gimme" header - what did he say - I don't miss them - oh really?

Smeltz huffed and puffed but I can't get past the feeling that he is going to get found out at the WC so would prefer Wood who looks the goods.

I thought Reid showed he has a nice touch. Not knowing his team mates yet and playing out of position won't have helped. He'll get better and is a good add to the squad. Tommy Smith looks good too. Wouldn't be surprised if our starting back 3 for the first cup game is Reid, Nelsen and Smith.

MFers all worked hard and Brown continues to amze me with his work rate. If he'd buried that shot early then he would have been my MoM. Still just lacking that creative player that can make that killer pass then we'd be the business.

Dear Lord, i'm agreeing with AJ13 about Elliott, and i'm with Oska about his line up (apart from the fact that i'd MUCH prefer Brown there instead of Elliott).

We really missed Brown when he went off, McGunit didn't fill the whole behind the strikers on the edge of the box well at all.

Pretty much. Cant really blame him for dropping back as cover. It was just unfortunate.

Boyens was awful. He has the pace of a 10 year old girl. I don't remember him being that bad... ?
Granted he was out of position on the right but I hope he doesnt get past the bench in SA.
Killen for my MoM, looked dangerous and Fallon also, not his biggest fan but he won a lot of ball in the air last night.
Was it just me or did the Convict defence look to be lacking some height?

Elliott rules

I thought Elliot had a better game than his last one for the AW's. Though it still seems like his body can't stand up to rigours of top flight football any more. He doesn't have much power in his legs and a lot of longer passes weren't that great (looks like he isnt timing the ball well) and doesn't get around the park much, but makes up for it with a good brain and first touch. Wish Brown had his touch, vision and positional sense.

It was less than 12 months ago that Elliott was our stand out at the Confed Cup. That shouldnt be forgotten just bc we dont watch him play club football every week. Marius Lacatus2010-05-25 14:21:59

Elliot for me- direct correlation between time Elliot spent on ball and quality of our play

I though Elliot did everything right except shooting and crossing (when bertos went off, he took the corners). He controlled the tempo through out, but in saying that I think the first half was his better half. Anyhow, I voted Killen, I think he is our most dangerous striker and think he played well, causing the aussie defence a lot of trouble. To me, he seams more like scoring than the other two (not to mention the money he made me by scoring first!). So Elliot was a close second for me.

Fuck this stupid game
