The crowd tonight wasn't great, but with more exposure, stonger opposition the numbers will come. Wellington is the new home of football and we want more games here in the capital.

As time goes on we can devlope a stronger supporter base and with the phoenix fast establishing themselves we are more than one step ahead.

Oh wellington!!!

2500 has been mentioned. Auckland would be lambasted for that.

Agree Sanday.

There are a stack of things you can put it down to (or people can use as excuses), but any way you look at it, it's very disappointing.

30 000 for Beckham, and that for the national team. Bit sad really. Just to add i'm not sure if the game had been played up here (same time etc) the crowd would have been much better. Maybe 5000.

It's an indictment that a Sydney fan from the weekend changed his plans so he could stay here for it, but many people in Wellington won't make an effort.

I'd be surprised if many knew it was on. . . .

Being one of the Akl fans here, I'm happy with this number as we got panned for having 5000 when hosting AW games!

I didn't see any advertising on the streets. Perhaps if it were marketed better, and cheaper, it would be more successful. I hope this doesn't jeopardise our chances of getting matches in the future,  but unfortunately I'm not sure we'll be so lucky.

Agree  - bugger all advertising

Quite expensive, I wasn't going to go (saving pennies for Melbourne this weekend), but got freebies at the last minute, $27+bf for a midweek game against pish opposition I don't really think is worth it.

When Hibs, went up, to win the Scottish Cup - I wisnae there - furfuxake!

I saw one tiny little ad in the paper. But everything else came from this site.

Well I'm sure I've seen conspiracy theories on here questioning NZF's desire to host games here and whether they were hoping the crowd would be tiny, justifying keeping the games in Auckland.
How did the atmosphere last night compare to games up in Jaffaland?

Yep, if it weren't for this site I may have missed the game altogether.  I don't see why people didn't go, there was always going to be goals.  It was fun on the day at any rate.

A few of the Fever had a chat with Graham Seatter before the game and he assured us that NZF are committed to Wellington as a venue for the All Whites.

He implied that with so much football on in town at the moment that NZF didn't want to blow megabucks on advertising and were happy just to see who turned up.  It was a bit of a tester.

Why don't you all send NZF an email telling them how great it was having the boys here.

Incredible stamina. No shame. Yellow Fever.

Yeah but we can cut it now that Grahan Seatter has said they're committed to Welly.
With the right publicity and maybe some tweaking of ticket prices (only committed fans will turn up to see such a supposedly "weak" side.

I actually had a lot of fun last night in the very small section of White Noise fans.

I was there. I'm just saying thats why others weren't.

Its a very idealistic view-one i dont have with many other sports and many dont have for the All Whites.

I didn't go.  As well as prioritising the Nix matches (and trying to stand onside at home) frankly NZ vs Vanuatu is equivalent in interest to the Phoenix playing New Plymouth, and given family commitments I'm not going to go to it.  NZ vs Australia or a 5th placed Asian side or a European outfit would be different.  Class opposition make all the difference.

I'm unapologetic about it.

Well by not going your just tell NZ soccer that as Wellingtonions All Whites don't matter much to us, you may have decreased the chance of getting 5th place play-off in Wellington too.

I know your not the only one too!

Heck, I'd watch that Even if I had to go up to Yarrows Stadium for it! I'm only watching the Galaxy match for the men in yellow and black anyway lol.

Pretty poor attitude by some here. It was the national team playing a World Cup Qualifier.

I couldn't care less who we were playing, it's about supporting NZ football...

For some of us attending any football match is a trade off between work, family and football.  Having been to the Sydney game, and with the double header just over a week away, it is hard to justify the fourth night away from the family and the expenditure that goes with that.  Different when you're single, or without children.  Of course, if the opposition were Brazil the balancing act is different, but come on - Vanuatu!

Passionate as I am, I'm with you on this one Cantona. I'm lucky to be single, without any nearby family, and only part time. I can schedule my life around sports events, especially the big three (Phoenix, Team Welly and the All Whites), but not everyone is so lucky. Family commitments do have to come first.

Of course maybe next time, you could take your family to an All Whites game and kill two birds with one stone eh?

Yeah, Robb, that's the long term plan.  Infect them all with the fever and then it's not me having time off, but taking the family out and being a good dad!  Got to employ the long term strategy if I'm to convince she-who-must-be-obeyed of this though.

Agree, New Zealand Football thought they would hop on the Phoenix band wagon, forgetting the Phoenix attracted a base support by charging $10 for pre-season games. They should have done the same, but thought they could make some easy money. Programmes at $2 was good !!!!!!!!!!

Agree with the earlier comments that publicity was very low key. I'm working in Wellington today and asked around the office about who went. Lots of people said they would have gone but did not know it was on. Thinking about it, I only knew because I visit sites like this and the NZF one. There was very little to encourage the average NZer to attend.

I hope we get more games in Wellington, but with 2500 it's hard to see it happening. What are the Auckland match attendances like?

Take the family. That's what I do. They're almost in to football as much as I am now.

And "come on - Vanuatu!"...? We weren't there for Vanuatu; we were there for the All Whites. Many of us aren't even Kiwis (well, me and Ginger anyway) but you gotta support the All Whites in the World Cup Quals.

I don't buy that "it's only Vanuatu" argument either. You go to see the All Whites. These are the teams we have to play. Who are people waiting for us to play? Someone that is world class? You'll be waiting a long time.
