Ryan Nelsen limped off the field 15 minutes into the second half of Blackburn's 2-0 defeat at Greece's Larissa in UEFA Cup 1st Round. Blackburn manager Mark Hughes anticipated that Nelsen would miss 3-4 games, which may mean we won't see him in the World Cup qualifiers next month.

Out 3 - 4 matches according to Mark Hughs, some scar tissue detached, so doesn't sound too serious.

3-4 matches out, then will need to have his injury 'settle down'...all equals no-show for NZ

Shame

Big surprise. Ryan Nelson might not play for the All Whites. I find that hard to beleive.

It is almost a timely injury for Mark Hughes. Lets see if he misses the All Whites game or if he does miss 3-4 of Blackburns games! Maybe a more likely outcome is he misses the All Whites games and 1-2  Blackburn games.

I am sure they would rather rest him than have him travelling 60 hours around the world for 2 weeks and playing two games against the likes of Vanuatu.

If we build it, they will come...

if he didnt physically limp off i would be sensing foul play...i dont trust Mr Hughes...hes a top quality manager & talent spotter, but i also wouldnt trust him as far as i could kick him.

if he misses the AWs match and plays for Blackburn within the week i will not be happy

I heard a sound bite from Hughes on radio sport this morning and he sounded a bit more positive about the injury.

ROVERS captain Ryan Nelsen could return to action sooner than anticipated.

The 29-year-old defender limped out of Thursday's UEFA Cup defeat to Larissa, but his injury isn't expected to keep him out for as long as first feared.

Ryan, who missed the first half of last season following an operation on a troublesome hamstring injury, has been in impressive form since his return to the team and his manager is hopeful that this latest set-back will not signify another long-term lay-off.

Mark Hughes said: "He's a little bit sore, but it is similar to when he had an episode concerning his hamstring at Bolton last year.

"I think he missed something like 10 or 15 days and he felt similar pain that he's having now.

"It isn't the actual hamstring as such - it is not a muscle injury. It is just a pain that he gets when the scar tissue releases. We think that is what is happening and if that is the case, then the prognosis is probably better than we originally thought."

I heard it too, so hopefully we will see Ryan here next month.

Yes it is on the gossip page, I'm not sure the Daily Star is the most reputable source!! I just found it interesting it was gossip in England as well as over here. Best guess...It's gossip that may have elements of fiction. It will be interesting to see if Hughes does try and not release him how much of a fight Ricki Herbert and Seatter put up.

Nelsen wasn't in tonights lineup in the UEFA game for Blackburn. We might have to wait for November for his come back for the all whites.

If we build it, they will come...

Yeah, Hughes said if he's not fit he won't be released so he will have to feature in the squad this weekend against Birmingham to make the trip for Fiji

He'd better not break a nail before the November qualifiers...
