The new black strip was unveiled today by Nike, featuring an "ingrained tonal effect of a silver fern" across the shirt.

The shorts are made of 100 percent recycled polyester, and the shirts with at least 96 percent recycled polyester. The company said an average of 13 recycled plastic bodies went into each kit.

The fabric is also 23 percent lighter than the previous version and is embedded with the latest Dri-Fit technology. They will wear the black strip against the Jamaicans.

Salright, keen to see it up close, left side looks pretty glossy.Azevo2012-02-27 22:50:40

We will never fully decide who has won the football.

The different shades of black split down the middle reminds me of the Timbers kit.

New Socceroos away kit is nice too. From afar, ours looks plain black.

I like the fact that they have tried to do something a little different with the shirt, but personally I think it is ghastly.

All I do is make the stuff I would've liked
Reference things I wanna watch, reference girls I wanna bite
Now I'm firefly like a burning kite
And yousa fake fuck like a fleshlight

Funny how I knew that the comment from Frankie Mac would be negative. Why is it ghastly?

I just think it is a terrible design, that doesn't look very good.  It is a bit like the (South?) Korea shirt of a few years back, that had a similar kind of pattern on the front, and I didn't like that either.

I didn't think that my comments were overly negative - I said that I am happy that they have tried to do something a bit different, but I don't like it.  I would think that if you showed it people who had no strong feelings for the NZ national football team most would say that they didn't like it.  I showed some people I work with in London, and none of them liked it (but to be fair, they may have just said that because they don't like me).

Football Central had theirs on sale over a month ago (By mistake, wish I picked one up before the recall)

Its a very cool looking kit. Its kind of a dark grey and black checkered pattern.

Those Jackets will also be on sale.

Think the shirt was about $150
Jacket $180. Not waterproof though.

Don't like it, looks cheap. Think they could've done the fern imprint in a nicer, perhaps more subtle, way.

I don't mind it, I'll reverse final judgement until I actually see it...hope it isn't too glossy, I could do with one.

Went through two AWs away strips in Africa in 2010 (One traded with a paraguay supporter in a drunken blur post-game and the other stolen in Mozambique)

Saw it at Rebel today, and thought it was even more minging up close.

Hope the white one is better.

What are these plastic bodies they talk of? Maybe they mean bottles?

The new white kit has the same pattern but is more subtle. Plus a black collar.

Grant McKavanagh said on Radiosport today that the match was originally intended for London and they had spoken to Nike about releasing this brand new away strip. The match then got moved to NZ but they kept the kit anyway.

Personally i reckon every NZ team should wear black as home colours, and they pretty much already do except for the All Whites. And also i think the All whites is a pretty sh*t name to be honest, as is black caps and tall blacks and all the rest. I reckon its cheesy how every national team is a play on the All Blacks.

On a more positive note - nzsoccershop selling all the gears

I agree about the name being awful but its infintely better than Socceroos!!! However it also has ugly racist connotations and a lot of people in other footballing nations would either not be aware of the All Blacks at all, or wouldn't be aware of how big they are here and thus wouldn't get why we are called that. Personally I don't see anything wrong with just being the New Zealand Football team.

I am however in favour of wearing white as a home strip, or at least not black, because WC and Confed Cup games are often played in summer and wearing a black strip in blazing sunlight  is a disadvantage we can avoid

Fair call, although at many of these events youre probably wearing the away kit as often as the home kit anyway so it wouldnt really matter. The materials arent really that bad anyway, yeah i know 'black attracts heat' but theyre super thin ventilated fabrics that dont hold that much heat anyway.

True. The ones who really suffer will be the fans wearing black cotton tshirts in the stands then

In the wake of the China-NZ game, both team strips get a mention in the fashion stakes (Kosta makes the cover photo, but it's the away strip that gets the nod).
