Could be a move to Human Rights FC for Nellie.

Heard Hughes on a podcast last week saying that they knew they wanted to sign Nelsen within 30 minutes of the start of his first training session and they were prepared to move heaven and earth to get him.  Said he's the most underrated player in the league bar none.

Pretty big raps.

The Times Online one...may be a week or two old now, worth a listen.  Like Smithy said Hughes gives Ryan a hell of a rap as do the hosts who are pretty well respected apparently.

Normo's coming home

He signs a 4 year contract paying 1 million a year.  He gets sacked after 1 year, having only done alright, with no damage to his managerial reputation and walks away with a 3 million pay-off.  He then gets another job immediately.

Sound economic sense to me.

At the Nix within 3 years (possibly, maybe, outside chance...let's face it, if his knees stay firm we'd have him at 38years of age).

I see Big Sam Allardyce is being linked with Blackburn. 2ndBest2008-06-05 10:51:24

paul ince front runner, Other candidates linked with the job include Sam Allardyce, the former Bolton Wanderers and Newcastle United manager, Dick Advocaat, the Zenit St Petersburg coach who has said that he wants to manage in England, and Henning Berg, the former Blackburn defender who is coach of Lyn Oslo, in Norway. A possible alliance between Mike Newell and Alan Shearer, the former Blackburn strikers, has also been mooted.

Dick Advocaat? They wouldn't have the Russian money to match. The socceroo backstabbing coach is not likely to move and not many clubs are interested in his turncoat adventures now. Lets say he burnt a few feathers.

According to the Tribal Football site (not the most reliable source sure)

Manchester City boss Mark Hughes is launching a 7 million bid for Blackburn Rovers defender Ryan Nelsen.

Nelsen is one of the top Hughes targets along with David Bentley, who has been looking to leave Ewood Park.

Hughes saw Nelsen as a key player in defence during his time at Blackburn

I wonder, depending on whoever the new Blackburn manager is, wether or not they will let Nelsen go to the Olympics with the Under 23s. From all accounts it sounds that Mark Hughes would have let him go as they seem to have quite a good relationship on a professional manner and the Hughes seemed to realise the idea of going to the Olympics as a player instead of a few weeks of preseason and i think the first game of the season. Hopefully for Manchester City's hopes they sign Nelsen to become their top centre back, then to reunite with Hughes and hopefully get released to play for the Oly Whites.

Should Nelsen play? Or be allowed to play?

I would say he's got next to no chance now Hughes has left.

If Hughes signs him for Citeh he has no chance, as you wouldn't imagine a new manager of a new team would let his centre back miss the the key part of the pre-season and then the first game(s). And therefore you'd have to apply the same logic to the new manager at Rovers.

His best hope might be to please a case to the Rover Chairman

There is no way Ryan will be released for the Olympics now.

If Ricki Herbert wont release Lochead and Smeltz from the Phoenix, Blackburn are not going to feel obliged to release Nelsen one bit.

At least Simon Elliott will get a run by the looks, he will need to influence the team with his experience. Not sure how his fitness re: lack of game time is?

If we build it, they will come...

Hopefully Nelsen continues to ply his trade in the prem. He's been doing bloody well over there and is a key role model for NZ's young footballers to show the premiership is attainable so aim high.
