Not a fan to be honest. Looks just as messy as the last iteration. Far too much going on to quickly figure out what you are supposed to look at.

What's the speed like for those in NZ? In Canada its frustratingly slow.

And, no blocking function. Guess they want to let everyone know when they win a prize.

It seems like the heads of the internetworld have mandated that every new website has to be scrolling, slow-loading with huge text.

It has more recent AWs fixtures than our last OFC WC qualifiers in 2013, so in my book it's already an improvement on the last one

No link to In the Zone on the main page #website fail

no- otherwise really like it and think it is about bloody time! ASB getting a lot better value for money on their deal now too. If the site can get some good numbers that may be a real attraction for sponsors. Does that make sense people who know things?

I had no problems with the website loading or accessing content. Think it looks good.

maybe it was the mass amount of people trying to visit all at once slowing it down

Wow, that is a terrible website. It looks very unprofessional and is making my eyes bleed.

I don't even know where to start... The navigation is confusing as hell and very inconsistent. The vertical scrolling stuff to jump to sections doesn't work well at all.. the top navigation is very confusing (some of the links go to an external page, some load a weird sub sub nav when clicked, and some seem to do nothing or just jump around the page, and in some parts the navigation system changes completely when you get to the other sections on the website...wtf... my brain wants to explode.

It's like they have tried to do a million things and squeeze every piece of functionality they could onto the website, probably what happens when too many people are allowed ideas or input into a project - particularly people who have never made a website before. Seriously they could get rid of 80% of the crap off that website and it would be so much better.

I'd be curious how much money they paid because a professional web development company should not be producing such crap.

There is a lot of content on there, but they have done a poor job of organizing it. it seems to be all over the place. It's possible to have a lot of content and still keep things simple if you structure it well.

It also looks and works shitty on the phone version, e.g on my phone (or if you drag your browser window so it's tiny) the mobile nav doesn't disappear after you click a link. Not to mention I'd rather not use up half of my monthly data allowance just by loading the homepage...

I actually quite like it. It's more 'media' orientated than news/story orientated but I still like it

so we've gone from "NZF don't provide enough content" to "it's got too much content"?

Can't win.

Allegedly

Permalink Permalink

I don't think there's any more content on there at all. It's just so cluttered and the homepage has waaaay to much stuff on it, which gives the impression that there's more content when in reality there's just the same amount.

Here are my thoughts the hompage from a web design perpective. Basically, there's just way too much on the homepage. They should really simplify it down and show most of the content on pages in the relevant sections.

Good to see them putting in an effort to improve it and have lots of content in there, just a shame the usability and some of the design is poor.

When it comes to a homepage, you have to be nitpicky. Failure to nitpick can cause a shit-ton of site visitors to spend less time on your site than they would have done otherwise.

I agree with some of your points there Patrice, but removing clutter can also mean more clicks to find what you want. So it might look cleaner, but usability actually suffers.

Just to pick one example - the menu bar in the All Whites section - if that is right there, it's right there, if you take it out you might have some more white space, or a bigger picture of Ryan Thomas, but you're making me go and scroll and find the menu items.

I don't think there's a right answer, but I think there is are two valid sides to that decision.

Incredible stamina. No shame. Yellow Fever.

Permalink Permalink

I think a more logical and thought out menu structure would make it a better user experience. It might mean more clicks but if you know instinctively exactly where to go it doesn't take any longer.

While some of the content is actually better/more accurate/up to date it's not a user friendly site.

The whole thing just reeks of being a rush job to me. Very little testing seems to have been done. When you shrink the window size things don't work as expected. The top menu which isn't the main menu foes haywire at about 80%. The horizontal score slider for the ASB Prem shows slightly more than one result at that resolution which means you don't see the score next to the teams on half of the results.

Teething issues are expected but browser compatibility and testing are two of the most basic principles in Web design.

But at least it means that the flash-harry NZF website won't be taking away casual visitors from the coalface, honest YF site.

According to the details available on this new glorified crap NZF web site can't find anything about the POs.
