Just got this.

Thought with the short notice it might pay to have it out there.

Greetings

Sorry about the short notice of the trials.

The National Trials are to be held at Fielding HS and players need to arrive by 5:00pm on Sunday 27th September.  They will be free to leave by 2:00pm on Tuesday29th September.

All players are responsible for their own transport (and associated costs) to Fielding HS.

I will be available to pick up players flying in to and out of Palmerston North airport, providing the details are emailed to me by,  at the latest, Wednesday 23rd September at aja@shirley.school.nz

Players are to bring their own sleeping bag, pillow, pillowcase, towel, shinpads, boots, shoes for astroturf, personal toiletries, underwear etc. It would also be wise to bring some wet weather gear.  All playing gear will be supplied.

The cost of the trials is $175 this includes accommodation, meals, use of facilities, staff travel and use of Fielding HS minivan for airport pick ups.  Player also receive a NZ Schoolboys T-shirt.  Cheques are to be made out to NZSSFA and payment is to be received on arrival at the venue.  NO-ONE will be permitted to trial without payment.  Please ensure players are nominated only if they are financially in a position to attend this and proceed with the tour should they be selected.

Alternatively payment may be made, in advance to the Association Bank Account

Bank = ASB

Branch = Eastridge

Account Name = NZ Secondary Schools Soccer Tour Account

Account Number = 123048 0237537 01

Please ensure that if you pay directly to the Bank Accounbt5 that your name is recorded as part of the transaction.

The tour is to take place in the holidays at the end of Term 1, 2010 and it is planned to include test matches against all of the UK countries = England, Scotland, Ireland, Wales and Northern Ireland.

As a guide, the last tour in 2008 cost $7,500 per player.  This should not scare players off as most in the past have raised the vast majority of this by sponsorship that I will provide advice on and material to assist.

Any enquiries should be directed to me on aja@shirley.school.nz

Kind regards

Why wouldn't the team get picked from the National Tournament that happened last week?

All the best schools were there, do a scouting trip and look at the players. To make those respective teams the players have to be of a good standard. And then maybe ask a few players from outside those teams to also attend, by asking local representative coaches to nominate potential players of a high enough standard.

I am not too sure but maybe at the National Tournament, they looked and invited the players that interested them and open up the net a bit more to allow other outstanding players in the lower school tournaments can have a chance as well. Many good players in bad school teams tends to be overlooked and the selectors only go to the top tournament but not the other ones.

This way, all the good players are invited and then challenged in front of the selectors. The standard would also have to be higher than the games played at the National Tournament because every player had to be very good. Challenge the players and to see who is capable to step up.

Also, they might be assessed in different ways such as the ability to adapt to coach instructions, or playing off players against each other.

It all sounds interesting, kind of feel like going along to watch and see if there is any future AW prospects.AllWhitebelievr2009-09-12 18:08:44
