Ah. Denmark vs Sweden. 2-2 draw to knock Italy out.

Three for me, and two for them.

It's weird given the 3rd placed system they had that the last group games weren't played at the same time.

Blame FIFA for the end of that game, not the 2 teams.

Where did we finish in the group?

So you'd have 12 games played at the same time? Very practicable.

FIFA did what they've been doing for 25 years, playing the last games in each group at the same time trying to prevent these kinds of games from happening, but there is no sure way system of completing eliminating this kind of thing.

Italians complained because 2-2 was the score that guaranteed both Scandinavian countries to get through at their expense. But it was a cracking 2-2 draw, great attacking game from both sides to watch, and had a very late equaliser from the Swedes. And had the added bonus of knocking the Italians out and moaning their arses off.

Austria and Germany, World Cup 1982.

That game forced a change in regulations, meaning that from Mexico 86 the last 2 games in each group are played at the same time.

Germans group stats Played 3 Won 3 Scored 11 conceded 1 - I'm sure Japan are a good side but i'd rather play them than Germany. They beat Panama, Ecudor and Burkina Fuso - not giants of teh game maybe but good enough to get to this stage out of Concacaf, South America and Africa so they have to be respected.

They have until 12.55 to restart the game - and thunder has to be 30 seconds away from lightning.

Otherwise it'll have to be abandoned.el grapadura2011-06-27 12:31:58

At least we don't have to face the Ivory Coast. That Souleymane bloke is on fire. Scored all 8 of their goals so far.

Three for me, and two for them.

From all accounts one hell of a game Brazil v Ivory Coast. Watching the highlights Souleymane Coulibaly scored 3 great goals, the 3rd to put them ahead 3-2 ,a cracking bicycle kick goal...talk about out-Brazil the Brazilians!

There goes Carmichael's chance for golden boot.

Plus I'm not sure 'irrelevancy' is actually a word.

Danny Hay's column isn't close to as irrelevant as Noah Hickey's on TVNZ. Never anything worth reading in there.

Agreed. Nothing Hickey has written so far has been even remotely interesting, let alone right.

Just goes to prove that if you tell enough people often enough that you're actually worth listening to, someone somewhere will eventually give in... full credit to the Tommy Smyth of New Zealand football...

Sky are getting their host countries confused.  Easy I guess as the women and u-17men both played/playing Japan.

Good to see Tuiloma getting a chance at LA Galaxy. Have been really impressed with his performances and someone I could see playing for the 'Nix. Unfortunately we probably can't match LA Galaxy without a full time development team.

I assume that this move will not allow him to take up any football scholarships for US colleges.

He won't be on professional terms at Galaxy, just with their Academy. Provided he receives no monetary gain from his stay there, he shouldn't fall foul of NCAA rules.

In the last 2 games, I think Payne has done well with scrap's, Carmicheal has shown glimpses of class, the full backs have looked good going forward at times and the two CB's have been solid. Best player for NZ has been the GK.

I thought Rhys Jordan did well in the 2nd half today started to show compusure on the ball and range in his passing. 1st half the midfield was outclassed by the Americans, they looked light years ahead. There no.10 was something else.

I personaly think Edge looks very awkard and lacks consistency. He gives the ball away far to often and dosen't affect the game, he looks like a headless chicken at times. I reckon Martin would do a far better Job for the team when they have possession.

Mcfarland has done a great job in organising these players and they have had their fair share of luck. Personal changes are now key if his going to stick to a similar game plan against the Japs.

Hmmmmmmm not sure I agree with you at all.......Yes the GK has definitely done some good saves, however he always just kicks the ball back to the opposition so we on the defense yet again straight away and your opinion on Edge is a little warped he been my player of the tournament for NZ. Feel he has been the ONLY consistent player and the only one who HASN'T given the ball away!

In the last game against the USA I watched Edge make three atrocious passes that went straight out and really shouldn't have. I would count that as giving it away.

Given Green Grass got worked up by the article on Edge, I hardly think he/she has an independent opinion on performances.

Edge was a little of against USA but has been one of our better performers in the other two games - as commented on by the match commentators i was listening to.

The fact i didn't know the other DM's name should say alot as well, Rhys Jordan - i've seen little of him in any game, in fact  can not recall him.

Keeper has done well, could dominate the box a bit more in the air, but great refelxes.

Isn't it funny how assumptions are made on this forum. I have no personal connection to young Edge at all, other than I have known the family name through my interest in football in this country. Just say how I see things, like I thought the rest of you did......
