not bad. when was the last time any NZ team, age group or otherwise gave an island team a hiding?

Asked at work about coverage and was told it was too costly and logistically painful to get coverage from out of the islands.

Last year women's U17 team beat Samoa 11-0, New Caledonia 12-0, Tonga 13-0, Fiji 11-0 & PNG 8-0
for men's teams you need to go back to the last U17's WC Qualifiers in 2015 they beat Samoa 9-1
Samoa obviously the easiest in the group, expect bigger tests from Solomon Islands and Fiji
the whole youtube live idea does seem pretty simple not sure why this couldn't be done...
because it's not that big a deal, and the benefits outweigh the costs.

i don't know anything about it. But they have a camera there surely hook it up to a computer sign into youtube way ya go. is it not that simple?
Highlights below
The second and 7th goals were crackers plus a composed finish for the last one.

quality of an internet connection at stadiums in this country can be a struggle at times, it's not as easy as opening up youtube and clicking go. got to be able to overlay score graphics, for one, so some sort of middle-man processing, and ensure it'll stay up, is the big one. even then, you've got to have someone to manage it, which is a body that might not be free. it just creates potential problems, and catering to diehard fans of 16-year-old footballers isn't going to have the benefits to make it worthwhile
U17s have kicked off against Solomon Islands and are already 1-0 up 3 minutes in
Solomon Islands scored just after half time after a miscued clearance from NZ backline. Now 66' in and still 1-1
Finishes 2-1. Goals to Jake Williams and Charles Spragg

One win away.
Ebbinge goal was pure class

Finish undefeated in pool play with a 5-0 win. Will now face Papua New Guinea on 21st in the semi. Qualify for final and we make World Cup as both teams in final go through.

1-1 at half time in the Semi final. Scored in 3rd minute from a PNG own goal! They got one back in the 34th.
Also New Caledonia beat Solomons 3-3 to qualify for the final and the World Cup.
U-17s are through to the final. Winning 2-1 with the second goal scored in the 93rd minute. Would have gone straight to penalties if it was a draw at full time.
Will now play New Caledonia in the final and have qualified for the World Cup.
Hope these guys don't take their feet off the pedal just cause we've qualifiedl, be good to win the tournament on not finish 2nd.
Be interesting, I can't say for certain but reading the match tonight doesn't seem like we will find NCL push overs.
We seem to have had a real up and down tournament in terms of results... some good ones, some very average ones.
I know the gap at this level is smaller (Island teams seem to physically be more mature) but I would have hoped for a little more space.

And are use to Island conditions unlike our u17's.

are our $$ that much more? 20 years ago this may have been the case but in more recent times FIFA have pumped alot of money into the islands

One notable difference is that for these countries, these are likely the pick of their athletic talent, whereas in NZ the natural athletes have rugby, league, basketball, (lesser extent, cricket) luring them in as well.

Only in French Polynesia and the Solomons.
In Fiji, Western Samoa, Tonga, PNG, the rugby codes dominate.

New Caledonia, Tahiti, and the Solomons which are three of the better football nations.
PNG has 7 something million people.
Fiji true. Western Samoa and Tonga are footballing rubbish.
Actually in the Solomons most play futsal or beach soccer
Congratulations to our U17s with a convincing win in the final!
FULL-TIME | New Zealand have clinched their seventh #OFCU17M title with a comprehensive 7-0 win over New Caledonia.

Aside from others in Aussie, are there any?
what about the young lad that went to Barcelona a few years back how old would he be now? wasn't there another in Germany as well. these lads must be close to being this age.

I think the one who went to Barcelona is playing futsal and still a kid

Had a very interesting conversation with someone from NZ Football who works with the business side of NZ Football. Apparently it took around 130,000 to take the U17 boys to this tournament. He said NZ Football don't get much out of it other than an experience for the kids.
It's not for NZ Football to get anything out of it. They exist to provide "experiences for kids", amongst other things

All of that money would have come through from the NZ Football surcharge on Junior subscriptions so the parents of junior footballers are funding these international teams.

A chunk of it, if not all of it, would come the International Teams Fund as well.
