Don't they also get something for playing 3 games and getting out of the group stage? Like the last cycle?

Maybe at senior level?

Do we get a share of the money for the finals television rights... no doubt they still make good coin FIFA from this.

Since when is "what NZ Football get out of it" even a thing that matters? It's not a business. It shouldn't have commercial motives. It's a national association.

FIFA u-17 World Cup India in October:

We can really enjoy our side's qualification because Australia failed to qualify for this, as well as the FIFA u-20 World Cup in Korea in May.

Iran, Iraq, Japan and North Korea qualified as semi-finalists at the 2016 AFC u-16 Championship to join hosts India from the AFC.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2016_AFC_U-16_Champi...

Iraq beat Japan in one semi-final, Iran beat North Korea in the other. Iraq beat Iran in the final on pens.

Australia lost all three of their group games at the AFC u-16 Championship in India in September and October last year to Kyrgyzstan, Japan and Vietnam. They were thrashed 6-0 by Japan and finished bottom of their group with a minus 8 goal difference.

South American qualifying, final stage is currently being played. Sensationally both Argentina and Uruguay were knocked out in the group stage. Venezuela went through instead of Argentina, Ecuador ahead of Uruguay:

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2017_South_American_...

In the final stage which started this morning, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Paraguay, Ecuador and Venezuela are competing for four places. All playing in one group of six countries, home and away.

This morning's results: Colombia 2 Ecuador 1       Chile 1 Venezuela 0         Brazil 2 Paraguay 2

Next round played March 11 NZT

Final qualifying round played March 20 NZT

The UEFA u-17 Finals take place in May in Croatia.

The final round of qualifying for the UEFA Finals starts March 11 and finishes March 29 NZT.

So I heard a story about Zac Jones today.

Apparently he made it to a camp a long time ago, right at the start of the 17s selection, and they thought he wasn't up to standard, so he asked the Keeper coach what he needed to do.

He didn't get invited to any other camps until he was spotted at a national age group tournament in Wellington, and he had bulked up, and he was such an amazing keeper compared to what he was.

He got invited back, now he is trialing at West Brom.

That'll be a story to tell his kids.

According to the Birmingham press, his trial is for one month and only starts this month.

So he'll be still on trial or maybe about to start:

More qualifiers confirmed recently for the u-17 World Cup (matches played in March):

From South America:

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2017_South_American_...

Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Paraguay

(no Argentina or Uruguay who didn't even make the final round of qualifying - Ecuador and Venezuela made the final round but were the two teams who failed to qualify)

European qualifiers:

The final 16 have been confirmed after preliminary qualifying finished last month.

Details here:

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2017_UEFA_European_U...

One of the biggest surprises in UEFA u-17 history occurred when the Faroe Islands (population 49,469 or about the same as Gisborne) qualified for the finals, finishing second in their group ahead of the Czechs. They qualified whereas Denmark, Romania, Bulgaria, Northern Ireland, Wales, Iceland etc. didn't.

Cyprus also surprised by topping their group ahead of Belarus, Belgium and Gibraltar (who only lost by two goals in each of their games).

The UEFA Finals consists of four groups of four.

The four winning quarter-finalists go to the FIFA u-17 Finals in India, the two best runner-up quarter-finalists enter aplay-off to decide the remaining spot (there are only five European qualifiers now, one spot being transferred to Oceania)

CONCACAF u-17 finals are in Panama April 22 - May 8:

So with the u17 World Cup kicking off on the 6th October,   as far as I am aware there has been no other training for the NZ squad since they got back from Tahiti apart from a 1 week camp during the school holiday.

Add in the fact Danny goes away on a school trip mid May.

Anyone else get the feeling that the NZ u17 squad is going to be under prepared for the trip, especially when most of Auckland boys not allowed to play club football at the moment.

I watched the U17s play an intra-squad training match in Hamilton on Friday April 21.

Elijah Just and Max Mata looked good, but overall I left thinking there was a general lack of a "wow" factor about the overall squad.

Still, give 'em a chance, etc.

World Cup Under 17s draw happened yesterday...NZ is in with Paraguay, Mali and Turkey...tough looking group. Tournament takes place in India in October. New Caledonia got France, Japan and Honduras by the way...

"Tough draw" is an understatement.....

Just did a bit of research....

 - Mali 2015 finalists, and current AFCON U17 Champions (& Notorioulsy have players that are definiltey not under 17 years old)

 - Paraguay one defeat in 12 qualifying games (Not to mention 2015 was the first time a NZL team had ever beaten a South American team to my knowledge)

- Turkey qualified out of a tough European Qualification Tournament and were missing a couple of their better players that will be back for the World Cup

I think we need to keep things in perspective....

Windsor FC starlet Keaton August is jetting off to NZ this week determined to show he's worthy of a place in their Under 17 WC squad. Born in South Africa, he moved to NZ aged one and has lived in Australia before moving to the UK 3 years ago. NZ coaches got in touch with him to request video clips and have since called him up for an Auckland training camp.

NZF better get onto the FIFA exemption process post haste then, as that movement around the world will be challenging to get through. It took months in the last cycle for kids who had lived here all there lives basically, without throwing country movement into the mix

I reckon Olly Duncan probably had something to do with it. But I also think amongst a lot of clubs in Australia, especially A-League youth teams, that there might be a whole load of players eligible for New Zealand, either not looked at or just have no desire to play for NZ. - My guess anyway

If the recent travails of Senator Scott Ludlam are any indication, there are probably tons of people over there who qualify for NZ and don't know it.

Slightly off topic, but there was a recent TV show in Oz here about single women choosing to become mothers with IVF etc. From what I saw a few of them had borne children where sperm donor was a Kiwi!!

Not sure how that's fits around FIFA eligibility rules if the young urchin shows promise on the football field!!!

FIFA eligibility rules on donations : untraceable & massive preferred/required (rather than traceable small deposits).

Well it appears that Bazeley was under instructions for the  20s on who to play and the style of play i.e. long ball crap. Hopefully Danny will not be under these instructions as there are some talented / promising players in the 17s.

Danny is a smart operator who will not bow down to senseless instruction from above. look what he managed to do with the last 17s after taking over and cleaning out. hard as nails on the kids but right up there with tactics and guile. I really like the idea of progression and after 2 campaigns with the 17s and Darren with the 20s, it would make sense to transition Danny up. After all , Darren is feeding at the Hudson trough too with the All whites
