@Andrew_Gourdie Same in any team sport - its between the coaches and players. It needs to stay inhouse to limit impact on player's career

cmilicich chris milicich
@Andrew_Gourdie No one really a few people asking why individuals missed out - not my place to inform people of the reasons - ask the player

Andrew_Gourdie Andrew Gourdie
@cmilicich who are you referring to?

cmilicich chris milicich
Players always know why they haven't been picked if they choose to share that information it is completely up to them.

cmilicich chris milicich
Just because you say a club name doesn't necessarily mean a player is considered important at that club. Professionals get paid to play

Hang your collective heads in shame Wellington Phoenix

Smithy, aren't you counting reserve players as professionals? Wouldn't that boost it to 4? (5 if we stretch and add Musa)

Either way, I get your point. Still a lot to do in developing NZ football.

You can't add Musa just because he used to be at the Phoenix.  He is quite clearly at Waitakere, having been at Western Suburbs here in Wellington before that, so is playing amateur football.

I don't see where you get 4 from?

I count Marco (Victree) and and Lindsay (Rovers).

Don't think Marinovic's club is a professional club is it?  I could be wrong, German lower leagues not my trump suit.

I'll give you 3 at the most, but where is your fourth?

You are joking if you think Melville are "producing good kids". Kramer is from Tauranga and like Woods and Rojas, Thomas learnt his trade at Wanderers.

Wehen's number 4, say Wehen's number 4.

But, the point is that he's in a professional environment, training every day, and committing to getting better.

So we can count him and say it's three.

Still a pretty horrible number.

Playing for a US College you are not registered with FIFA.  Therefore you can still be registered with your NZ club and continue to play during the US summer school break. Murphy and Hobbs fall into that situation

Cracked me up when I saw that on the news!

I have to admit he looked very good for Manawatu when I have seen him in the National League a couple of seasons ago - disappointed he has missed out and I hope it doesn't signal the way we intend to play.aitkenmike2011-07-20 11:07:18

How to Play Football the Alan Jones Way

Goalkeepers       Always hit the oppostions end of the centre circle
Don`t throw out or play short
Defenders          Hit the big man up front (dakota lucas) or in the channels behind the defeders
Don`t play along the back line
                           Don`t play into the midfield
Centre Midfield   Man mark
Win second phase ball that is being competed for up front
Don`t play back or sideways Retention of the ball between the boxes is not        l
                           essential
Wide Midfield      Chase the ball released in the channel/pocket
Put pressure on the outside defenders
                           Take on the outside defenders
Strikers               Win the airial battle, put pressure on the defenders
Chase the ball released in the channel/pocket

Set Pieces           The critical part of the game
All free kicks from up to70m out to hit the penalty spot
All throw ins in the attacking third to hit the penalty spot
                            Corners ditto

Well thats how I saw it against the Phoenix, similiar to how Auckland City played when he coached there. Definately not pretty. Effective??? It was against Nigeria
If it goes pear shaped it could be ugly

To me this is a bad result, they're a third division USA team, and even shmucks like Jeremy Christie can make second divison.....
