Wow this squad looks really good. We can defiently go far this world cup, will be interesting to see if Singh and Cacace go.
they will go and be signed elsewhere.

Their coach has made it clear he won't be holding them back.
Max Mata is suspended for the first two games right?

Pretty good build up. Potentially each game getting harder with Mata back for 3rd match - should we still need a point or a win.
I have really enjoyed the development of Stafford Dowling and Seth Clarke this year. I would say they are more midfielders, or, have more impact in the midfield than as forwards.
will be interesting to see how Raimbault goes
picking a starting 11 will be hard, particularly further up the field. Will be interesting if Stensess and Zwellott play as CBs to make space otherwise?
Who do you drop out of Singh, Bell, Just, Van der Hoven, Zwellott, Stensess, for the midfield?
Who do we consider absolute lock-in's if all fit and available?
Woud, Cacace, Dingham, Singh, McCowatt
Any more than that?
Really excited by this squad and to see what Bucky can get out of them.

In Nix formation:
Woud
Dowling Tipelu Pijnaker Cacace Wilkins
Bell Kumsuz
Singh
McCowatt Conroy
Bench: Smith, Elliot, Ingham, Just (!), Stensness
Very hard to choose, and lots of unfamiliar names.
Why would you have Dingham as a sub and not directly at RWB?
(when fit of course)

...and 5 more.
Allowed 10 on the bench.
Wasn’t Zwetsloot a star of the U19 qualifying in the Islands.
Werder Bremen must see something.
He’d have to be in match day squad as a minimum.

Looking at Transfermarket stats, he does not seem to have played since August? Maybe injured as not at the camp currently either. Not sure how good the stats are or if he plays in a minor side, but not playing in 19s or reserves
Looked at Tahiti stats too, played 24 min, 90 min, 55 min, 40 min, 72 min. Not full contribution either.
Zwetsloot looked a notch above most players at the tournament - seemed to really add to our midfield. Has been in the reserve squad to at Wederbremen, but don't know if he got off bench.
I'm picking:
Woud
Pinjaker Stensness Tipelu
Ingham Carcace
Zwetsloot Bell
Singh
Just Mcowatt
When Mata comes back in after his suspension I would pick Just to fall back into the middle alongside Bell and for Zwetsloot to slot into a back 3.
A solid team with some good players on the sidelines.

J Jones, Stanger, Wellsmore, McIsaac,Clark, Mariner, Mechell, Palmer and Raimbault - I've never seen play but it wouldn't be a surprise at all if one or more is so talented as to demand a starting spot.
But putting them aside for now, my last 5 are Kalua, Curry, Wooldridge, Waine, and Zweetsloot.
The 21 they actually pick will be way different.
I think it's worth pointing out that Des Buckingham had the team playing in a 4-2-3-1 in qualifying.
Are they likely to stick with that?
There were a few players missing from the squad, (arguably our two best) so it will be interesting in they stick with that, especially given we don't have Mata to play up top that way and I don't think his like for like replacements are perhaps up to leading the line in the same way as he did.

What a squad!
GK - did they have to pick three? Keegan Smith missed out, and for mine is a better bet than Jones, who is too short and slight for this position.
Defenders - only six selected; could be a problem if there are injuries. Looks strong though (Stanger?).
Mid - IMO van den Hoven is lucky to be there and Kumsuz unlucky not to be.
Forwards ditto - Mata lucky / Dowling unlucky.
Mata scored plenty but missed so many sitters last time out; his touch is just plain poor, and Grasshoppers aren't starting him in the B team lately, which plays in the Swiss fourth tier. Ditto van den Hoven / Dutch reserves league.
Why Mata is thought valuable enough to select when he has to sit the first two games out is beyond me.
Looks like a slight bias for overseas based players, some of whom are struggling for game time at low levels, over well performed locals.
That all said it still looks like a strong squad. But based on last time out, I don't think Buckingham will put the best 11 on the pitch.
With Dane Ingham ruled out through injury, Des Buckingham says Callan Elliot is in the pole position to start at RB for the upcoming Under-20 World Cup. Will have his thoughts on the 21-man squad and his answer on the possibility of replacing Mark Rudan on @NZStuffSport shortly.

GK - 3 is the standard for FIFA international tournaments
On current form I don't think Keegan Smith would deserve a call up
Stanger is the son of Scotland rugby International Tony Stanger (has a kiwi mum), plays for Hamilton Academicals youth, no idea what he's like but wouldv'e thought he'd be on Scotland's radar if he was great (cue the inevitable statements about how Scottish football is pish!)
Don't think only 6 defenders will be an issue, the thing to remember is with the Ole boys they are have been trained to play in a system and while they have their main positions its not unsual for them to play elsewhere. I've seen Callum McCowatt put in a couple of great performances at right back for Wests
mata is scoring for the grasshopper youth team, good recent touch.
Hoven has done well since his move to Holland.
Good squad, with some quality about it.
Yeah but Mata misses the first two games of the tournament because of the red card he got in the finals of qualifying, so he may only be available for one game (hopefully more)

And the only reason he’s not starting for the reserves is because a regular Swiss international on loan from Everton has been playing there instead. Nothing to be ashamed of, Mata’s done very well for himself. Our best out and out shirker by far so i’d have him without a doubt especially as we have a good shot of getting out of our group. Would stick McCowatt down the centre in his place while he’s out, we have depth in the wings
Shirker...
Interesting observation - the Wellington based players play national league (or A-League) for the Phoenix ressies or Ole Suburbs. The Auckland based players play NRFL.
Ignoring Suburbs importing a whole side from Wellington, but are the other two Auckland NZFC sides 'where All Whites are made' or 'where imports are paid'?

lol what a typo, leaving that in

it’s just the way they’re listed, Cam Brown for example is an Auckland City player and Conroy plays for Waitakere

and Eastern Suburbs are both a National League and NRFL club

point being why aren't they listed as Lower Hutt?
Will The Ole Turnips come over the top and withdraw their kids from the team?
No... allowed them to go to camp so can't see a change. Also Des plays a style that at least resembles something Ole likes.
At least some of them don't have any EU access due to family so the U20 might be a window to them finding a professional home.
Feel confident saying this is the best squad we've ever put out. As hopeful as ever. Took Portugal all the way to the final whistle and thrashed Honduras with a much weaker squad
You must have played for either Temple, Edge, Zorich & Miyazawa and/or the private academies Phoenix, Ole & Wynnrs.
