Boyens needs to go if you were picking a team of plonkers you would make him captain he couldn't organise a stag do in a deer park
New Zealand Men's U-20s

The U-20’s position will be overseen by All Whites Head Coach Danny Hay on an interim basis while NZF continues to take stock of the uncertain international football landscape.
Out of curiousity, anyone know if Buckingham is still in NZ?

He has been on the pre show for the Phoenix in studio, so looks like it.
He is doing a free coach education event for Capital Football on Monday night. Hopefully Mainland will get him down here to do one.

Well he has his pilot's licence, so may just cost them a tank of aviation gas.
Replace Boyens with Buckingham simple
Look at those clubs man. Is that 2019 team the most colourful U-20 class we've had?
Only three players who are now in the NZ domestic leagues (Ebbinge is at Harvard), and two of them have already spent time overseas (Cam Brown the exception).
Ebbinge is at a US College iirc?
Bit disappointing that Stanger hasn't seemed to kick on into a starting role for his club tbh.
Is Zwetsloot NZ based? Might be one that Talay should have a look at.

Playing for Queenstown right now during COVID.
And yeah on Zwetsloot, definitely worth it if his recovery's going alright. ACLs can easily take more than a year to come back from

If Ebbinge is at Harvard, football may not be his number 1 priority! Bright kid I imagine, unless Harvard lower their entrance standards for those on sports scholarships??
And yes to having a look at Zwetsloot. He looked all class in one of those Island OFC tourneys (U19s?). Hopefully he can come back strong from his ACL injury. Sadly not everyone does.
Any info on an upcoming U20s camp? Hawke’s Bay just tweeted out that Kaeden Atkins was selected but can’t find much else on it
to much like hard work for NZF to publish the list

24 players selected for a @NZ_Football U-20 men's ID camp in Cambridge at the end of the month.

For NZ-based players – so the Europe-based trio of Matt Conroy, Matt Garbett and Marko Stamenic aren't there.
Western Springs defender Ronan Wynne another who is unavailable.
Always interested in squad selections for World Cups.
Any bolters or obvious omissions? and who is the coach now that Tony Reading has resigned.
I see the qualifying tournament is now delayed till January in Samoa so how do you run a tournament when Samoa has closed the borders to non nationals?. Might have to draw the two qualifiers out of a hat!.
Maybe NZ Football didn't get the fax from FIFA but I'm under the impression that FIFA are cancelling all their men's age group World Cups next year (apart from the Olympic u-23's).
Read this in August World Soccer magazine.
Reasons:
- Qualifiers can't be played in most Confederations due to covid-19
- Crowded calendar in 2021 with Olympic Football, Copa America and Euros.
I just checked the FIFA website and all references to men's age group World Cups have been removed except the Olympics.....
https://www.fifa.com/fifa-tournaments/
Only the Women's u-17 World Cup is still listed.

There definitely hasn't been any official word re: this, though obviously it is a likely outcome. Had pages actually been created for those World Cups in the first place? There would still be value in age-group camps even with the World Cups etc in doubt.
Edit: Fifa Council meeting/Fifa congress taking place this weekend, could be some decisions made then.
Thanks for the update, I guess we will know shortly from FIFA on the cancellation of the tournament.
Would have been interesting to find a new Singh or Cacace amongst the new crop of players.

True, no offical announcement but it seems unlikely any FIFA age group finals will go ahead next year except the Olympic u-23's.
The FIFA Women's u-17's were postponed from this year to Feb. - March in India but they seem highly unlikely now with the pandemic situation there.
UEFA have cancelled their Women's u-17 qualifying tournament and just sent the three top-ranked nations through.

That could be an option for other Confederations too.
Any promotion of the men's u-20 World Cup in Indonesia May 2021 has been removed from the FIFA website - no news stories even for some months.
I doubt if it would be safe for FIFA officials to even visit Indonesia for the stadium inspections scheduled for this month.
I think it's safe to say that Peru won't be ready to host the men's u-17's in October next year (they were even stripped of the tournament in 2019 before the pandemic due to deficiencies in stadia)
Who knows if the Women's u-20 finals in Costa Rica will go ahead?
January seems too early to be feasible but most qualifying is done (except South America and Africa)
Bazeley taking over as coach of u20... talk about progress. Has to be a bit of slap in the face for some of more up and coming coaches. Jobs for the boys same old NZF
Huge step backwards.
This man does not believe in NZ footballers nor their ability to play football. The last age group team he coached was horrible to watch.
I hope he was NZF fall back option after Buckingham said no, stop wasting my time!
Next years event called off, tough for the cohort eligible. Same with the 17s
All of this talk about Erling Haaland's goalscoring exploits, perhaps defenders across Europe should look at Pijnaker and Stanger as examples of how to nullify him... (NZ u20 2 - 0 Norway u20, 2019 u20 world cup)
List of players for the next U20s camp, these players are all 03/04 born (eligible for 2023 U20 World Cup). I’m not sure if NZF plan on doing anything for the players who would’ve been eligible for a 2021 tournament though (01/02 born)
I have;
Lawton Green, Motherwell
Bradford Green, Motherwell
Jack van Luijken, Go Ahead Eagles
Till Estermann, Xanax
Matt Dibley-Dias, Fulham
Oscar Obel-Hall, Esbjerg
Are there others? Anyone in Australia? Anyone bubbling under at the Phoenix?
These are the NZ based players involved in 03/04 programme (could be players in the 05/06 programme that I don’t know about who could be good enough though):
Oliver Fay - Auckland United
Lower Hutt is, of course, the Phoenix academy
Checked through my database, and that's all I have as well - there's also Fabio Pedrini, but he's a youth player with Poggio Mirteto in the Italian sixth tier and appears to have come back to NZ with Cashmere Tech anyway. Still a little worried about Estermann's links to NZ, did a fudgeton of digging but couldn't find a thing.
There's also Johnny Martin (2005) at FV Illertissen - moved to Germany from Western Suburbs just a month or two ago, was part of their premier U17 team - but he might be too young for this iteration. Illertissen are in the fourth tier, and in the same regional division as Sarpreet's old club Bayern II.
Jack’s a very passionate Dutch lad. I could be wrong here, but I think Jack will try to make himself available for the Netherlands as much as he can.
Which I understand if he gets called up, why not?
Billy Check was Nelson based for high school before moving to the Phoenix, but is originally from Stewart Island
Back to football, I wouldn't read too much into where he's playing. Italy is teeming with talent so you can get very good footballers even lower than the 6th tier. This being said, Rieti is a short drive away and they play in Serie D (4th tier) and Monterotondo (Eccellenza, 5th tier) tend to gobble up all the best local talent.
Interesting to hear he's come back to NZ where it will be a lot easier to assess him week in, week out.
unreal, small world!!
I don’t think anyone knew of George Stanger before the 2019 U20 World Cup.
Reckon it’d be cool if there was a list somewhere of of that.
Must be a hell of a young player, just physically he or she should be well behind.
Nils Winstorfer (BSC Old Boys - Switzerland)
Matt Garbett (Torino - Italy)
Marko Stamenic (Copenhagan - Denmark)
Jack Van Luijken (Go Ahead Eagles - Netherlands but probably won't play for us)
Campbell Strong (USA University)
Matt Conroy (Berga - Sweden)
Also noted Alex Paulsen, Ben Waine and Sam Sutton from Wellington Phoenix would probably go.
Keegan Jelacic and Jackson Simpkin from Brisbane Roar
I couldn't find anyone else deemed a professional or in an overseas environment.
I will add Willem Ebbinge to the list just because he went to the last world cup and was still eligible for this year.
Would like to see a FIFA U22 World Cup to make up for the missed tournament this year, but doubt it would happen.
Sean Bright and Ryan Feutz are at Torslanda in Sweden.
There are also a bunch of other 2001 and 2002-born players at US colleges.
Jesse Randall, Jarrod McKechnie, Jaylen Rodwell, Harry Bark, Noah Boyce...
Hayden Aish (Otago University AFC)
Do you really think Kees is below average?
