Other than the 2 non-starting keepers, the entire USA squad are full professionals and therein lies the difference. The whole Wanderers SC concept was always going to be a failure as they aren't training every day together and they were playing in an absolute sub-standard competition with the ASB Premiership. You can see the difference Tuiloma and Edge have being full-time professionals. In my opinion, we need to get more young players playing professionally overseas (not including Australia) in order to truly progress.

well I don't think Hudson is going to find many players in this lot who are going to get us to the 2018 World Cup. Bill obviously will be in the side, Wyne I would be willing to give another chance as our left full back stocks are dire. Anyone else?

Edge? He has been played like a 2nd rate fiddle by Jamieson all night till he got dragged.

I agree with you for this match, but in general he would be one of the better players in the squad.

Think the most disappointing thing is there is no real excitement with this team it seems - no Rojas/Kosta/Boyd/Thomas types coming through; they all seem on the same low level except BIll.

I think Ukraine's convincing victory would edge them over us.

I do not get all the angst. The USA team plays at a different level because their senior team does too. Thier coaching quality and also available player pool reflects this. Our guys are guilty of something serious IMHO though: ball watching, and lack of movement. Individual player quality and good coaching/ drilling makes up for the rest of the reasons we are down, and (so far in this tournament) goalless.

So you don't get why people think this team is playing poorly, then highlight the reasons that they are playing poorly? What?

Yeah, I am poor at multitaskin typing while trying to watch the game. What I was aiming at saying was that USA are playing well (good passing precision, individual speed, organisation) and we are not playing well (missed passing, ball watching, hopeful kicks forward). However, I was also stating the reasons why I would expect the US to win this game anyway and hence I am not angsting too much.  The AWs losing does not stop me from watching it.

In contrast, I was angsting a lot during our game against Ukraine. We might have won that particular game, in any case it was close. Our poor performance then was the difference. Here, not so much: if we played better it might be a 1:2 loss or at best a draw.

Does that answer your question?

I think our boys have cracked under the pressure of a home croud and heightened public expectations following a surprise draw first up. A lot of what's gone wrong tonight has been unforced errors. Kind of like the missed sitter at the end of the Ukraine game too. Apart from Tuiloma we look like possums in headlights

I watched Myanmar vs Ukraine today and thought Myanmar were quite impressive in the first half. They don't have a lot of height but have some very quick players. I think they will cause NZ problems.

In my opinion, the Wellington Phoenix is hardly the environment required to develop quality players.

Dyer has been sharkhouse tonight. On the 1st half, I can see why Ridenton got dragged. Why Rufer can't get off the bench, I have no clue but probably cause he does not play like the striker that Bazeley thinks he is. I mentioned prior to KO that Bazeley had it set up wrong but then its unlikely to have made a difference.
