The Solomons did us a favour. The highlights reel - where I missed the Solomons goal - suggested Vanuatu were the better side before and even after being reduced to 10. The Oly-whites should be quietly confident - if they can remove the back passing yips from their game.
New Zealand U-23s - Quali Whites

Either way I have more faith in the Oly Whites going into the final game.
Impressive stat.
However apart from the Olympic Qualifying tourney (which some of French speaking countries ain't eligible for), really weak sides like Samoa & American Samoa are culled out earlier, ie NZ age group men's sides generally don't play these punching bag teams that often now?
That U17 team in 2015 was Jose and Temple. They were replaced by Hay and Zoricich before the World Cup later that year because they wouldn't bow down to Mr Hudson.

Oops, I've written 2015 instead of 2017 there; my bad. Was Hay's 2017 team that has the second-best mark.

Undoubtedly.
One day I might break it down based on results v the rest of the 'superior seven' alone (ie not American Samoa/Cook Islands/Samoa/Tonga).
Final has started. Streaming on mycujoo
3rd goal was pretty good
Solomon Islands hard done by the Ref, should have had a pen. Anyhow good game and NZ finally back @ the Olympics.
I don't think there gonna make it, Solomon Islands played there reserve side and still nailed two goals easy. We already missed one Olympics wont hurt to miss another.
That Solomans Islands First Team needs to be replacd by their Reserves
What was the score?
5-0
Highlights for goals 3 & 4 in below link.
Goal 4 was obviously a well rehearsed freekick, with players gesturing to coaching staff, after it goes in.

Well done to Buckingham and his team. He really hasn't put a foot wrong with his NZ age group sides, last few months.
NZF need to do all they can to retain him. Taking a team to the Olympics will hopefully be a big lure.

Let's hope he gets to keep doing what he is doing. Its a formula that is working
Yes, Buckingham is a very high quality coach that we are fortunate to have in the NZ setup. He is a great manager who knows a good palyer when he sees one, and knows how to bring the best out of them.
It's a shame he didn't get the All Whites job.
It is piss poor. There are so many players that would be picked but I understand wont being going to Fiji based on media reports (Rojas, Kosta, Woods etc) not to mention names like Keat, Boxall, Reid, Smith, McGlinchy, Gleeson..... We actually have a quality full strength Olympic side when you look at the amount of them that are All Whites so should go well.. and people say Ricki doesn't pick young talent.....

You do realise that list was not allowed to be involved in the qualifiers right as they were too old.
Our best three (Wood, Reid and one more) will all be there in Japan along with Singh etc. Should be a great team and I expect we'll get results.
Wood, Thomas and one of Tuiloma/Boxall/Reid/Smith

Must be a bot or something, they bumped another thread by copying another old post in the thread.

Seriously? - two premiership players
Wood, Thomas and one of Tuiloma/Boxall/Reid/Smith
Really don't think we're gonna see Bevan and Billingsley scoring at will against Brazil mate
Billingsley will be our starting RB
How to use the best three overage players? GK, Defense, Midfield or Striker.
If fit and available Wood has to be in as a striker.
But do you go for two overage strikers and an U23 midfield for service?
With good attacking midfield options - maybe the best defensive midfielder we can find is more on point, say Tuiloma instead of Thomas.
Reid is also injured and unavailable often, and when he plays he is often limping (Peru). I think Michael Boxall would be a more versatile defensive pick - CB and if needed RB up the wing and getting forward.
Marinovic vs Would - Senior vs up-incoming GK. Both of them let in the odd soft goal - but experience is hard to buy.
Lastly the philosophy of the U23 campaign may also dictate players - results vs International experience and player exposure.
Great to have options.
The Olympics will be during middle of the 2020 MLS season. July-August 2020.
Throw in some warmup games prior, and you are probably looking at about 6 weeks away.
M Boxall and Tuiloma are unlikely I think to be released by their clubs. Same Tommy Smith.
That’s if those guys are all still playing stateside next year.
Watching the Ireland game today, reinforces my excitement for the Olympics. What we saw today was a team full of youthful potential with a desire to play.
Just will only get better as he gets stronger, along with McCowatt and Singh etc.
How is Trevor Zwetloot rehab coming along?
Thought he looked really good when he has played for NZ until he did his knee.

Voerman may turn up to let us know. Last article I could find was this from Rollo in August that said his contract wasn't renewed and he was still sidelined

As far as I'm aware his recovery is going alright. Will be interesting to see where he decides to reenter football.
"Michael Woud has played more matches at age-group World Cups for New Zealand than anyone else, with 11 appearances to his name"
Not true.

No? Who has then? Joe Bell, Sarpreet Singh, and Bill Tuiloma hit 10, Callum McCowatt 9, Tim Payne 8, Jesse Edge 6, Scott Basalaj and Clayton Lewis 5. That's everyone who's gone to an U17WC and two U20WCs and thus is even in the running, I'm pretty sure?

If this is because there's a woman who has (and I'm pretty sure there is, having looked all this up at the time of the World Cup – Bowen or Longo or White, or all three) then please. In the context of discussing selection for a men's team, the field he's being compared to should be clear.
