Definitely they are meant to be behind closed doors warm ups only. So we shouldn't expect them to be televised, no. Though weirdly 1,500 locals were at the first game. Presumably someone on the front gate had instructions to weed out Korean, Romanian & Honduran spies!

But socceroos.com.au has daily articles on the Olyroos in Japan, and more.
https://www.socceroos.com.au/

Of course FFA has more resources/money than NZF, but NZ Football's website is still poor. https://www.nzfootball.co.nz/

Even outside of events like the Olympics, their posting of content can be very random. An article on Kiwis Overseas with their club results etc, and then another one 3 months later. It's almost like someone wakes up one day and says shark, lets write up a quick blurb, it's been awhile.

The All Whites FB page is better https://www.facebook.com/AllWhites/

The Football Ferns have a reasonable one as well.

It seems to me a day or three of someone in head office updating media would be money well spent to gain a little more market share.

Honduras’ warm up game vs Japan was televised, and probably in front of a crowd as well, and the Matildas (Australia’s women’s team) have their game tonight televised, so it shouldn’t be impossible for them to do it. If they properly wanted to do behind closed doors to eliminate any potential scouting they wouldn’t have announced the games, and certainly not done updates/allow spectators.

Before the 2019 U20 World Cup they played two such games, and only mentioned the final result after the game, and the goal-scorers. They even went to the extent of having the players use different shirts to their official squad numbers so that the opposition wouldn’t get an idea of who is who (eg Waine wore 11 instead of his 18, Cacace 17 instead of 13 etc). In Monday’s game you can see they had already printed the names on the shirts, so they can’t have been worried about opposition scouting, it’s probably just that they’ve decided it’s too much effort to stream the games.

The Japanese teams warm up games have enough interest that ofc the host broadcaster would send broadcast crews to games. An Aussie v NZ game, not so much.

You can believe both. A sports journalist in St Paul, Minnesota may have been told by someone at Minnesota United that Boxall is unavailable before Minnesota United has officially told NZ Football. Seems like NZ Football would seek their own opinion on the matter too.

MU's coach Heath obviously hasn't been keen for Boxall to go to the Olympics, since he was named in the Oly Whites squad.

He should be careful. Who knows the AWs may actually secure some friendlies in the Sept-Oct-Nov FIFA windows later this year (say in Europe). Just as the MLS is getting down to the business end/playoffs. NZF could dig their heels & insist that Boxall either joins an AW squad over those windows, or sits out any MU games that clash.

Just been checking out our group opponents' squads and recent friendlies:
South Korea seem to be the main threat.

South Korea drew 2-2 with Argentina in a friendly this week.
They play France tomorrow in their final friendly.
S. Korea beat Ghana in two friendlies last month.
They have been having camps and playing lots of friendlies since October last year, including vs. Brazil and Egypt:
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/South_Korea_national_under-23_football_team#Recent_results_and_fixtures
Tomorrow will be their eighth friendly since October last year.....
Korea squad for the Olympics (three over-age players but not their biggest star Son from Spurs in England):
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/South_Korea_national_under-23_football_team#Current_squad
Mostly Korean-based but includes midfielder Lee Kang-in of Valencia, a full international and regular player in la Liga (Best Player 2019 FIFA u-20 World Cup)
and Hwang Ui-jo, a first eleven striker at Bordeaux in France and full international (11 goals in Ligue 1 this season)

Our other opponent Romania have also been playing lots of friendlies the last month:
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Romania_Olympic_football_team#Results_and_fixtures
A loss to Mexico, win over Australia, two draws with the Saudis.
Romania squad:
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Romania_Olympic_football_team#Current_squad
Includes two defenders playing in Spain (including Villareal) and midfielders based in Italy, France and Brighton in the Premier League (their biggest name, Tudor Baluta, a 22 year-old who has been on loan at den Haag and Dynamo Kiev in last two seasons)
No over-age players called up.

Honduras:
Only lost on penalties to Mexico in the CONCACAF qualifiation final in March (knocked out the USA in the semi) - so certainly not to be taken lightly despite their poor showings at the last two FIFA u-20 World Cups.
Lost to hosts Japan in a friendly this week 1-3, they play Germany on Saturday:
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Honduras_national_under-23_football_team#Results_and_fixtures
Squad all Honduras-based except for players from Italy, Portugal, Chile, Angola and two based in USA:
Stars: striker/ mid Rigoberto Rivas of Inter Milan, transfered to Reggina last month;
Denil Maldonado of Liga MX side Pachuca (on loan at Everton in Chile),
Jorge Benguche, Boa Vista, Portugal striker
Douglas Martinez, Real Salt Lake, MLS striker
Three over-age players called up.

The Olyroos will take on New Zealand for the second time in a week as preparations for the Tokyo 2020 Men’s Football Tournament continue.

The training match will again be played at the ZA Oripri Stadium in Ichihara City and will be held on Thursday, 15 July 2021 with kick-off at 6pm local time (7pm AEST). The game will not be broadcast or live streamed, however team lists, half- and full-time updates will be available on the Socceroos’ social media channels.

Isn't listed on Futbol24, so finding out the score in real time will be hard.

Oi Oi Edgecumbe

Anyone know if Aussie made many changes? I see Reno is on the bench again.

they had Rich-Baghuelou (hulking Crystal Palace CB) come in for Deng, and Lachlan Wales inexplicably come in for Pierias

there's clearly a motive I'm not aware of, but as a fan it's pretty disgraceful that NZF and the FFA have taken a step back from the last game - not even providing updates for this game on social media.

Yeah, I'm not sure why they say there will be updates on twitter, when there aren't. How hard is it to do some twitter updates every 5 or 10 mins...

Agreed, even to say both teams are passing the ball around, no one has the upper hand

I can understand not televised if they're trying to keep team patterns from the eyes of Olympic opponents, but surely text updates aren't too hard

Irrespective of the outcome of this match, I feel that we will do a lot better in the tourney then the Olyroos.  They have been average at best in their recent friendlies.

1-0 it ends in Ichihara as an early Mitch Duke goal in the 3rd minute secures the win for @Socceroos
#AUSvNZL

Someone at NZF thinks we were playing the Socceroos.

Two good hitouts. Starting 11 seems set in concrete, and has now had good minutes together as combo. Bring on Korea.

It’s a bit hard to get a result when Australia park the bus after scoring the goal.
