 They were looking dangerous on getting in behind on the counter but lacking end product. Also with Paulsen in goal makes it feel a bit safer.

For a few minutes after the pen the game had a vague resemblance of Germany walking through the Brazilian defence in 2014, really awful defending from Guinea. Garbett just charges in and slots it really after we won the ball up high

Herdman and especially Bayliss not up to the level so far. Herdman’s definitely a more central player though. Old would be absolutely LETHAL here

Previous times I've seen Herdman I was always a fan. He is having an off day though.

Saw about 5 minutes and thought Paulsen carry mission here we come and yep that ain't wrong! They have an exciting attack, but nice to see us able to create a few chances too and of course in the lead

Hope we aren't going to be left to rue Surman and Herdman's missed sitters. Guinea seem to be able to find space with ease on the attack. We are just fortunate we have Paulsen doing all he can to try and make a premier league clubs match day side.

Our lack of squad depth is going to be put to the sword this tournament. Herdman and Bayliss seem miles off the level required. The France game at the end of the week is going to make for some brutal viewing. 

Hope we can come out and find our rythym again in the second half because while there were definitely some attackng highlights a good percent of our performance so far has been all too sloppy.

Really entertaining first half - and great to see us creating some really good chances.

1-0 is probably fair, only in the sense we are leading by 1... on a different day we are up 3-2 at the end of the half.

We are pressing well and counter attacking nicely when they err with their passing. Singh looking dangerous, Herdman end product is off, but he is making good runs. Bayliss just a body IMO currently.

How good is it to see an NZ side in a genuinely exciting football match though?! Loads of chances at both ends

Quite happy with that first half. We had the better of the chances - seem mostly structured in defence.

Big thing in my eyes is to keep the strucutre in the second half and not allow the game to break down - that will allow Guinea to use their pace and strength too much.

Strange seeing Goran talk about a sport other than football!

Paulsen’s talent is just stupid. How lucky we are

Well that was an entertaining half of football. The kiwis were making Guinea look ordinary and then after we score we kind of drop the tempo and let them into the game. We look defensively weak down our right side where their winger is getting many centres and shots.
On the positive side our midfield are playing well as a unit. Surman and Boxell look very solid but the star is our keeper. He’s made multiple excellent saves. 
We can win this but I am a bit worried how hot and bothered the team looked late in the first half. It’s probably early 30s in the stadium. If we don’t track back in numbers Guinea will make us pay.
