Boxall couldn't have picked a worse time to slip over. Conceding that was a long time coming and certainly not against the run of play. Gotta get our heads back in the game boys and spark something!

EDIT: nevermind VAR loves us today.

Why on earth would Herdman chase the ball and leave his man wide open there???

Job done and on the front foot going into the USA game.

Garbett has a lion heart.
Sarpreet done all he can to put himself in the shop window.

Really chuffed the boys managed to refocus and get back in it after drifting and conceding the goal early in the second half. They kept their defense structure really well.

Hopefully someone from AFC Bournemouth had their eyes on this game and can approach Iraola with the old "Sir I know we discussed a loan option but there's some footage you might need to see..."

I don't like how defensive we were for the last 20 - but we held out, so who am I to judge.

Great workrate by the whole team, some nice moments and two open play goals.

Well done Beazley.

Paulsen MOM.

Great start to the campagin - there is hope of progression.
Everything we needed!
Love seeing Waino score, Singh with swagger, Garbett with class.

Bring on France....

The media in NZ will undersell this as per usual, but this is genuinely massive. Second ever win, and doing it without Woodsy, Libby, Marko and Oldy. Unreal

I like a back three of Bindon, Boxy and Surman but not Bindy on the right. I still think Surman could have done better then the MLS.

Excellent win even though Guinea made us struggle. Great way to start the tournament. Wish the Nix had kept Surman a bit longer. He was really good. I watched the game on French T.v and the local commentators were raving about him. Could have sold him for a decent fee. Paulson was immense as well. Old would have been handy in this game. There was space all over the park.
Two tough games to go but a point against the USA would have got us through

VAR has been good to us today but 11 mins is absurd.

Was never a penalty for us, Suts was a mile off side. Watched a reply of it via Discovery+. Glad we missed it.

Even though VAR saved us second half, the sooner its gone the better. 11 minutes extra time because of it. WTF?

Paulsen should be No.1 now. End Of.

Garbett, great game aside form the missed penalty.

Thought Sarpreet was average and Bell bang average again. I expect better from overage players.

As others have said, Herdman didn't have a great game.

Is Old really injured or is his club blocking him with an "injury" as happened to Boxy in Japan?

Think how good this team would be with Wood, Libby, Marko and Old. Near full strength AWs!

Thinking about it, our/my best XI right now is:

        Wood    Waine
Old          Marko       Singh
                Rufer
Libby Boxy Surman Payne
              Paulsen
Bench: Crocombe Garbett Bindon Suts  Just Barbs Bell Rojas Roux

Well that was a decent enough game to kick off this campaign. 2-1 was ok, had we not had Paulsen in goal we could have been looking at a loss, he was massive in goal, two extremely good double saves! Defensively we were ok, though Surman did a great job, Sutton was his usual self, good on attack, ok defensively. Boxall led the line well. Bindon did ok at RB. I really dont see why we bothered with Bell though, he looked off the pace early on, with passes going to noone and some really unnecessary cynical tackles in the middle of the park. Singh was everywhere, noted multiple times for his work-rate. I still think he is still a little gun-shy in the physicality side of the game. Overall we did what was necessary and got the win.

Not sure what the officials were doing with adding 6 mins in the first and 11 in the second! Seemed excessive.
Then we have the Nice pitch, which was wither over watered or just very unstable, payers slipping over everywhere and pieces of turf ripping up at every slide or slip - just awful).

While very pleased with the result.  watching the France v usa, we will need to find another level against them.

This must be the worst NZ Olympic squad ever assembled.

My prediction: 3 games, 3 losses, no goals scored.
