Celtic boss Gordon Strachan has identified Kenny Miller as Jan Vennegoor of Hesselink's ideal partner after his performance in yesterday's 4-1 thumping of Falkirk.

Strachan told Setanta 1: "I'm very pleased for Kenny Miller. He set the standard on how we close down up front.

"He got about the place and we followed him in."

Asked where Miller features in his plans, given Celtic's abundance of strikers, Strachan said: "He's number two. They (Vennegoor of Hesselink and Miller) are number one and number two at the moment.

"Kenny forced himself into the team because of his training performances and his hunger."

It sounded like Killen was signed as an understudy to Vennegor of Hesselink as they are big strong centre forwards, and smaller faster players like McDonald and Miller playing around them. So maybe he can push his way past V of H and earn the starting spot. I think Miller will come right for Celtic, so hopefully soon it will be a Killen/Miller Strike partnership.

Can't see Killen being a regular starting forward. Def a squad player at Celtic from what I can tell.

still great for killen mate. better than playing for a av team with not soo gret players. the oppurtunity for killen is always there and the players he's around is only going to make him better! (and hopefully the all whites better)

he'll get plenty of games.  i didn't even expect him to be on the bench this early on. being amongst the top 4 strikers at the club at this stage of the season is a good basis to launch yourself.

He played for the reserves by the sound of it:

from the Glasgow herald:

A moment of brilliance from Paul McGowan eased a Celtic XI to victory in a low-key friendly against second division Airdrie United at New Broomfield last night, writes Mark Sugden.

His first-half strike, reminiscent of Paul Gascoigne's goal against Scotland in Euro 96, was enough as Gordon Strachan gave his fringe players an outing at New Broomfield. Bobo Balde partnered Adam Virgo in defence, Thomas Gravesen anchored midfield, and Derek Riordan, playing wide left of a three-man attack, caught the eye early on for the visitors, though Chris Killen looked short of match fitness.

McGowan, who spent last season on loan to Morton, lit up the game after 25 minutes. he latched on to Paul Caddis' pass, dinked the ball over defender James Sharp and volleyed into the top corner from the angle of the box.
