NZ Selection contains just A-league players or US as welll? Or will it have NZFC players too?

It looks like it will basically be those players selected for the camp versus the best of the rest of the NZFC.

No Coombes, Hayne or Hogg.

Interesting to see Pevs get a shot.  Western Suburbs will be disappointed.

Incredible stamina. No shame. Yellow Fever.

Think Ricki will want Coombes, hayne and Hogg to play close to full matches v the incumbents to get an idea of where they're at.

I reckon Duncan Oughton should come down and prove why he should be there over Mulligan imo.

....or he could keep playing for the Crew.

Not surprised Clapham made the team as there's no big names(playing in nz) sitting out.

English Championship final regular round is one week before that - could players not involved in play-offs be included?  (Fallon, Wood and possibly Killen/Smith)

how soon after the final whistle of their last game of the season are players released for summer?

hmmm, I'm going to go ahead and answer my own question here and say a) perhaps that's not the idea of this game and b) perhaps these players could have a week off after a long club season

Full marks. It's more of a trial game for fringe players

I'm there, it would be good to see some of the fringe players put their case forward.

Should be a interesting game. Will definitely be going along.

This may be considered a stupid question. I don't suppose there will be television coverage for this game? A big ask, I know.

The NZ selection was the easy team to pick with the exception of Peverley.
Who can pick the NZFC team?

Neil Embelm and Paul Posa is selecting the NZFC side. . . .

I'm really chuffed to see Aaron Clapham included in the NZ Selection- he's just been outstanding this season for Canterbury and developed in his play and confidence as the season's progressed. In the past, a lot of South Island talent has been ignored by North Island-based all Whites coaches, so it's encouraging they're actually considering all players.
Having seen him in both of Canterbury's last two home games against Auckland, he was much better than Haynes or Coombes and is the only attacking player in the league to have the technical ability to at times be given a free rein by his coach to rove all over the field as appropriate, taking the ball out of defence, dribbling past players in midfield , getting in crosses, taking free kicks, shooting from distance, getting into the box...
He's good enough now to sign for a club in Britain or Europe, let alone the Phoenix.
But the Phoenix would be a good first step...
Probably the best young attacking player I've seen down here since a young Mike McGarry signed for Christchurch United in the mid-eighties.

Interesting that nearly all the goal-scorers in the second leg of the NZFC semis (apart from current Canterbury players)were former Canterbury players: Draper, Fisher, Barron.
A good little period for Canterbury football!

I personally haven't seen Clapham play so reading that it seems like he could be the next big thing out of canterbury. exciting times. I look forward to hopefully seeeing him on the park at some point in ther not too distant future.

So does this mean Bannatayne is going to be the 3rd keeper? would prefer Gleeson (signed in the MLS for next year) or Jacob Spoonley, give someone a chance to be part of that environment who's a player of the future.

Not when they are effectively second keeper for the first two games.

You know we belong together...

Well I haven't seen Clapham play either but if you are comparing him to Michael McGarry, Dunedin City's finest then I expect big things.

The world cup is not somewhere you take players to develop.
Why do new zealand sports teams always plan for the future at the expense of the current side

Haha . . . remember England in Germany 2006?

They took Theo Walcott as the 4th striker (selected unobserved) and SGE never used him and Rooney had a broken foot but was in the squad with the hope he would recover in time for the important matches (was shown to not to be match fit) and Owen did his knee in one of the game. So it fell back to Crouch. . . . with a non-match fit Rooney. . . . -> Fail.

Bring a young fellow if he is capable and there is noone as good left in the country and not for future development. He has to expected to deliver immediately at the World Cup. If there is a squad of 30 then there is a possible 3 youths of near ready state that can go. But not a squad of 23 to the World Cup. Development players are usually for friendlies not for actual/qualifying tournament unless they deserve to be there.

Development is always ongoing in squads (not bound by time periods or age) but the World Cup Finals there are no room for development, it should be the final product.

Why would as a coach take this type of player knowing that you are not going to play him.
Walcott is only 21 now and the Swedish bloke was a dick head. Will Wilcott make this years England team. I hope so. Should he have been in the last World Cup- I don't think so.

If you are old and wise you were probably young and stupid

Saw this over on the ACFC forum amongst the tumbleweed.

City play a" behind closed doors" game on saturday (at 2.30pm) against an All Whites selection. Those that are keen for a peek can no doubt look over the fence or round the corner or just come in for a quiet drink as many are apt to do when not playing on a saturday afternoon.

On the flip side. Luis Felipe Scolari took Kaka to the 2002 World Cup, which they won, Kaka played once in a pool game at the age of 20, to help him develop. And he turned out....ok
