Dave57 - I don't understand how anyone can blame the Fijian
Football Association for complaining to FIFA? How does that
work?
Yeah i don`t get that either.

I just don't like stupid people (apart from Feverish).
I think FIFA have their head in the sand if they expect any
government to roll over and admit someone just because they are
representing a national footie side. Can you imagine the US
changing their mind if someone who didn't pass muster for
whatever reason tried to get in as a member of a national footie
side? No chance.

That definition is sure met by a World Cup qualifying match being
hosted by NZ.
You can understand FIFAs view. If we didnt stop the match, we set a really bad precedent that would cause chaos within the football world, Nicholas said. (from nz soccer website).
For Fifa it really is all about the precedent that would be
set by allowing a team to have visas refused. Fiji should not have
forced the issue.
See below - this
means that the Fiji Sevens team will always be granted Visa's, as
the sevens is an international tournament.... so we will see the
Fiji team here next year... Its not quite a double standard
Fijian sports teams and Fijian sportspeople at all levels will be banned from coming to New Zealand for the purposes of sport, unless international sporting and legal obligations require otherwise.
As provided for in arrangements after the 2000 coup, where New Zealand is hosting an international sports tournament which requires acceptance of international participants, entry will not be banned, subject to those concerned meeting other immigration requirements.

Ummmmm, the FIFA World Cup is the biggest international
sporitng tournament of them all. We are hosting games here and are
obliged to abide by FIFA's rules, which require the acceptance of
international participants.
It is a total f**king double standard by the NZ
Government!

Fiji arn't to blame. Thhey shouldn't be in this position in
the first place. Its crazy. I would have never
predicted I would have felt so angry at this. Where are those
to greeks, they have had nothing to say and that QPR guy?
Fiji should've taken it up the rear as expected.
FFFAAARRRRKKKKKK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Yeah i don`t get that either.
It's an over reaction. They are just doing it to make a scene.
To get the match called off over this matter i think is crap. If it
was more than one player...ok fair enough maybe.
So you think the FIFA rules should be amended to state that
political involvement is okay up to a limit of one player?
yo dude its there #1 goalie it would be like killen not getting a
visa for us
Yeah i don`t get that either.
Dave is an idiot.
no ones quite sure not even the phoenix
Yeah i don`t get that either.
Dave is an idiot.
your quite straight up aren't you frankie lol
I just don't like stupid people (apart from Feverish).
Basically saying "It is only 1 player, so they should bend
over and take it" - either trying to wind people up, or just plain
stupid.

The other possibility is that his father in law is Winston
Peters
SiNZ2007-10-12 17:14:48
yeah but its only his girlfriends dad! He might not of even
met him and whos to say that they might not break up next
week!
If this guy was a terrorist or something, then FIFA would
be having the guy not allowed to play.
His girlfriend's dad is in the army or something. It doesn't
even meet the NZ sanctions as defined. It's not family and this is
a NZ hosted international sporting event where the player concerned
otherwise meets visa requirements (unless there is some unrevealed
fact that the NZ government are sitting on).
Winston's on air. I think I'm going to puke.
Seatter was just on Newstalk ZB - I felt he should have been a bit
more "f**kING c**tS IN THE BEEHIVE - I"LL SMASH THE c**tS.
WHO ARE YA, WHO ARE YA"
Yeah i don`t get that either.
Dave is an idiot.
Justify it.
Im not offended-u use the word idiot more than any other..
Pkus i dont think very highly of u ay.
(are u really so thin that u'd dance around topless on
international tv)
I just think its an over reaction and Unnecessary. I am not alone in thinking that. I'll admit its
probably equal in terms of the nz govt over reacting by disallowing
a visa.
Dave572007-10-12 17:24:12
So it is political interference when NZ applies its
immigration rules, but not when FIFA tells us to change them
especially for a Fijian soccer player?
Fiji kicked out our high commissioner. They are run by a
military dictator. Some people there live under a curfew, and now
have to retire at 55 and take a mandatory salary cut.
FIFA Fairplay or blatter bs?
I'm sure Fijians have an opinion on this, if they were allowed
to...
sorry to go all political, but thats my 2 cents

NZ did not apply its immigration rules as written.
- The guy's family are not in the military.
- The guy is here on an international sporting event hosted by
NZ.
According to NZ immigration rules, he can have a visa. FIFA
have not asked us to change them. Where does that idea come
from?
Yeah i don`t get that either.

"I'm going to chuck in an ill-informed opinion here, but do we
really think the 2nd and 3rd best keepers in fiji are much worse
than the first ?
It's not like he plays in Serie A and the rest play in Fiji is it ?
They've done it to make a scene..." HARD NEWS.

I'm not the only one with this opinion aye.
Its not exactly what i said aye. Im saying its an over
reaction and they should accept the consequences of the state of
their govt and NZs stance and if not they should not go as far as
to have the match cancelled and all the consequences it has. (not
nz footballs fault, not the fans fault-they're unfairly
impacted).
Frankie:its my opinion just respect it and dont insult
me. Pretty imature aye. (im allowed to be imature-im 17).

Hard News is an idiot as well.
It's not NZ Footballs fault, its not the fans fault, its the
govt's fault - I think that 90% of the people on here think
that.

thats good then-im glad u wont be abusing me over it.
u r an idiot
Dave572007-10-12 17:42:10
Seatts as you are around where and when could we possibly play this
game? Do we have to play it in Oceania? Thanks.
i think I would call that interview on the National radio with
Winnie as less than probing .... and when winnie said he had
sighted a copy of the goalies' wedding certificate from 2005 it
kind of ruined the interviewer's main argument.
HOWEVER - I could see NZ winning the match on Saturday and Fiji then protesting about the home side effectively being able to choose which players the opposition could field - so to kill that possibility it was necessary for FIFA to pull the plug.
and it really sucks

Well the AB's played in the same finals as Fiji, Why were they not
brought home before the tournament started?( Or even sent in the
first place?) I'm disappointed Winston, no consistancy. Come
to think of it, the USA & the French were also involved and
politically we're not friends with them either.
I wonder what would have happened if this happened in 4 years
time....(the rugby world cup in NZ)...would they have let the
fijian rugby team into the country?
Yes...too pissed off for words!
Agreed that this is sh*te
but .. what if, hypothetically...
NZ plays Indonesia in the playoff later in the piece. Turns out the Indo left back was the alchemist for the Bali bombing but didn't go to jail. We don't give him a visa. Fifa says he plays.
Hypothetically

Hypothetically
I see this just as an unfortunate set of circumstance and am
finding it difficult to blame anyone. The whole problem began when
the Fiji games had to be rushed after Vanuatu games had to be
re-scheduled, so there was little time for NZ Football, FIFA and
the Government to think this through properly. FIFA are fully
justified in pulling the game, as were the Fijians in asking for
the same, although I would have expected FIFA to have pulled the
plug quicker than it did.
As far as the Government goes, my, ahem, inside, sources state that the Fiji football team was allowed to enter on the same basis as the Fiji 7's team (the process was apparently even rushed through), ie, part of international competition that NZ was committed to, and the football players were subjected to same background checks as the 7's players. My source is insistant that the keeper is married, they've located and seen a marriage certificate and have found no evidence that the marriage has terminated in any way. The problem here is that our sanctions are unilateral so FIFA as an internatioal organisation doesn't have to abide by them.
While a lot of people are understandably angry, from the Government's point of view the rules can't really be changed now. While charges of hypocrisy on Government's part are perhaps not altogether inaccurate, the Government has to operate in the real world. In other words, when we look to uphold democratic principles away from our shores, we can flex only enough political muscle not to jeopardise our other interests, usually economic. So with China, we can whisper and make polite suggestions; with Fiji, we can be more heavy-handed. POLS 101 there.el grapadura2007-10-12 18:41:35

What about an exhibition match for all us Aucklanders starved of
quality football?
Fijian coach stated on the news that fiji should get the points for
the game-no rematch. Also confirmed that the goalie is married, he
was lying about the gf thing.
