I think they were right in calling it off - it's completely unfair they denied the Visa based on what it was. Very pathetic.

Sucks for fans in AKL though.. ..

I put up with a lot of that and take it on the chin, when the people who stood by the Kingz (I'll exclude the Knights) deserve credit for loyalty, not to be bagged.

As I sit in Hamilton today, fighting my travel company to change my bookings, it's the wrong time for it...

The advert for the game in Auckland already has graffiti on it, "POSTPONED BY WINSTON PETERS".  Gutted.

All I can say that nothing surprises me with FIFA , a little while back the winnerrs of the Oceania Confederaton were going to get automatic entry into the World Cup and then a comlete "u" turn took place.
I thought that FIFA had said to our esteemed Winston Peters that they were happy with Nz's decision to not allow the Fijian Keeper, there must of been a lot of greasing from the Fijian  officials to the powers to be.
I think the only loosers in this episode are the FANS, please you f*#ing idiots let the game be played.

I don't think that you can blame FIFA for this - the government f**ked this one up for us.

You can't possibly blame FIFA for this. Fiji left it to the last minute to apply for visas and NZ turned one down. If you're Fiji, you are not going to want to play without your keeper are you? The fans may well be losing out, but it would have been hardly fair for Fiji to play on.

I'd be very surprised if FIFA had actually told Winston Peters that it would be okay. So far, I have not seen anyone but Peters make that claim.

If, as has been said elsewhere on this forum, NZ made an exception for the Fijian Sevens team then all else being equal, NZ are applying double standards.

I blame Vanuatu. If their ground was up to scratch we would be playing them tomorrow and Fiji next month. No wait, i blame the Solomons for losing the third place play off against Vanuatu. Or do i blame New Caledonia for beating Fiji. No it`s always the governments fault.

I agree its double standards ,we watched the Fijians playing rugby last week on NZ telly they will be here for the sevens   ,we have  a huge f**k off Chinese warship here on a friendly visit sitting in the harbour but a goalie who might marry someone who's dad is in th Fijian military is not allowed to visit as it would somehow show that we support mad man banana drama and go against NZ's democratic values!
I reckon Peters thought that by singling out what he perceived as an easy target would make him and Clark look tough but they obviously didn't factor   FIFA  into the equation and are now going to look ridiculous  the world over,so for the second week in a row NZ is going to look rather silly on the world  sporting front !!

The answer to life's problems are rarely found at the bottom of a beer glass - but it's always worth a look.

I wonder what the Minister of Everything is going to say or do about this botch up?? Well Trevor Mallard? Squeak up!! Oh hang on, it's not the All Blacks so he won't want to know about it.

Yes a beaurocrat has muffed it. The player concerned is not married but who cares about who his future in-laws are? It's the player himself and he's a victim.

*adds his two cents on Auckland's predicament here, focuses on Winny being a cock on the other thread*

The fans of the Kingz/Knights deserve a hell of a lot of credit. The health of a sports franchise can be measured by the support they receive in the hard times, not the support they receive in their glory days. Those "20" supporters are exactly the kind of supporter any team needs, and I'd glady share a row of seats with them any day. I'm disappointed for them and everyone who misses out on the game because of the circumstances, and hope those "20" supporters can make it to All Whites vs Vanuatu if poss.

All All Whites fans have the right to be disappointed. It'll be interesting to see what Peter's and co do to make this up to the fans. Obviously those based in Auckland will have had their weekends plans ruined and I do actually feel sorry for them. I hope they show some anti Peter's placards at  some point of the future.

Good call mate, I'm one of those 20.  I wonder if the phoenix bombed whether the support would remain long term?

I don't mean to be rude mate but Fijians need to apply well in advance for a Visa to come to NZ if they don' t play a version of Rugby or Netball.  Remember that the game in Auckland was only scheduled quite recently.

that idiot who posted criticising the kingz/knight fans should bugr off.  i'm getting sick of the negative coverage that these football pioneers have copped of late.  we don't know how lucky we have it down here; nice stadium, well run club, we're appreciated by management etc.  bloc 5 and the others had none of this and stood by the team in any casereg222007-10-12 23:10:55

I hate when footy and politics mix together. However, I believe than in the case of the All Whites vs Fijii the NZ governament/immigration have been rather accomodating to the whole matter..
First they have issued visas which the Fijians had applied for late (although that was not their fault because the game had been anticipated - but still the immigration went through with that).

Also, let us not forget about the COUP in Fiji. I mean, the governament ruling the country is ILLEGAL. How would you like it if tomorrow the army knocked at your door saying: "sorry mate, we are changing everything cause a few powerful men have decided they want a bigger piece of the cake..." and they screw you in the arse...

So, although I am not a big fan of NZ Immigration, I stand by their decision.

Sport is a beautiful thing. But also politics should not be underastimated, especially in cases of unlawful stuff going on, like a coup.
