Oceanic has to Play South America in 2018?

So the inter contential playoff for 2018 will see the winner of Oceanic play the fourth place in 

South America? Please tell me this is wrong? 

It's potentially right. In fact there is a 1 in 3 chance of it being right. There'll be a ballot in about 2 years to determine which condfed plays which assuming the system isn't changed.

"I reckon they need to change the Oceania qualifying for the next World Cup. Scrap the intercontinental playoff. Instead of the winner of Oceania playing off against a different confederation, stick them straight into the 3rd round of qualifying in Asia. That's their final 20, and there's 5 pools of 4 with the top 2 going into the fourth round. That would give us at least 6 more competitive matches against half decent teams. Plus if we got through that 3rd round we'd get another 8 games. Can only be a positive for the NZFC."

There are a number of posts and threads already discussing why Oceania and Asia merging won't happen which is effectively what is being discussed there.
