Rory Fallon shake hands with every PNG players, on the interview he praise PNG's arrangement of this OFC Nations Cup. That's what real captain should do after winning the final,
Nevermind Chris Wood, make him the captain permanently to lead us to World Cup 2018, please.
Wood would have done the same. Rory has stepped up well though, with his rag tag army to manage to sneak us through. At this stage it doesn't matter how we do it. What we do from here is crucial. I'd say Marinovic, Adams and T H-W are the main folk to have their reputations enhanced. Everyone else gets a should do better.
Look at Hudson in the middle there looking like a Twit.
Ah forgot Themi. Yep him too. Fallon- I've always rated the guy, but he did exactly what he could as a pro really at the end of his career. I don't think he outshone expectations, just played to them.
thought Brotherton and Colvey came back well for guys who were initially a bit poor and put in a really solid shift in the final game. Would have made their life a lot easier if their much more fancied attacking team mates put a few in the back of the net.

They really had to work for this and it was clearly a lot more of a challenge than they expected - it was ugly and below expectations but I think it will do them good. Nice to see the guys with something to celebrate - 90% relief I suspect.
Love Fallon.

To be fair he made some good balls into the box. But yes, has been average for NZ. His pen against Mexico is a good example. Used to train with him in Nelson when we were 16 or so.

yeh, more than the doubters. But even with that given that we were playing a cup against amateur teams as a pro of a long career as some of his goals showed the skills he picked up were much superior. Also he's kind of the opposite of Brockie- always fins something extra when playing for the AWs.
Now where is that history from many years ago with many mods ripping into Stefan :)

he was shark then and still is. I remember him turning up to miramar to try out as the guest player for u19's, got a polite no thanks ( your guest players are meant to be a couple of your best, not worst ). Good on him he has made a career in football scoring the odd fantastic goal, and otherwise being disinterested/lazy. Got to give him some kudos.
Rory was obviously picked because Hudson knew we'd need help from his mate Jesus. Which we did.
While Panic in Port Moresby has been marginally less embarrassing than the Horror of Honiara, Hudson has so much explaining to do and humility to display to avoid summary dismissal.
Piney seems to rate Brotherton.

What amazed me most was he did a steady job in 90 minutes, but step up his game at extra time and nearly head in the winner; the penalty he take, confident and quality as, most of the people think he's lost the fitness after finish normal time. Exactly as he said people think he's finished after leave Scodhorpe, but he come back strongly as ever.
Oh, blessed relief. Relief that it's all over and didn't end in a disaster (although it teetered on the edge for a while), and relief that I don't have to watch this again for at least a few months.
Hudson out. I thought he had plan when he took over. But he clearly has no idea. Who is Prelovic? He wouldn't stand out in Central League. Themi is nothing special.. The All Whites were heroes after World Cup. Now they are unwatchable. I think we have some good players. But they are under performing . I watched Wihongi play Sanfreece and he looked very very good under Ramon. Yet he wasn't the same player for All Whites against weaker opposition. Still he should have been starting before Tuiloma who was sub standard to put it nicely in semi final. We need a new coach who can spark this team up.
Brockie is no superstar at this level but is easily good enough to be in this squad and get minutes. Based on the players and shape we had, I would have liked to have seen him at right back instead of Colvey. Although he didn't look like Iniesta he was involved in some of better moments towards the end of the game.
I wonder if the Woods wedding had the game on the big screen. I hope not!
Not often you see Boxall burnt off in a race. I thought Adams, Colvey and Brotherton did pretty well today against some good attackers.
Kosta little impact, obviously frustrated the hell out of Rory. Marco made a bit of a difference.
Get home to discover MySky did not record extra time and penalties, probably a blessing by the sound of it.
Unforgettable afternoon, what a drama, credit to both sides. Yes they are not professionals but to play in the final, the nerve, tension, humid and heat will take you out of the game. Fair play to both side what a final to watch!

Our defense was solid and immense, no non sense play, but the midfield was a bit down, they are dominate more and more when the games go on, but up step Rory Fallon at extra time, and agree with Rojas made lots of difference when the ball is on the ground more, Kosta was a threat when we counterattack but seems too early to take him off, possibly injured?

When are New Zealand Football going to realise what a fraud Hudson is? The sad thing for the All Whites with this result is that I suppose they are just going to carry on... at least if they lost they might have actually got rid of Hudson.
Well played by Marinovic to get New Zealand through, but such a shoddy performance. The 'defense' is a shambles, several times falling apart and giving the ball away, only lucky that PNG didn't quite have the compusure/final pass to score off it. We potentially have half or three quarters of a midfield but don't bother to use our football skills so they become less relevant than they should be. With Wood not there up front we are big time time lacking.
A neutral watching the game would surely regard PNG as being the better football team out there tonight. Were able to really open us up at times with good quick passing. All we had most of the night was trying to use our height advantage. Tactically they were smarter, with the wind, they played the ball on the ground behind our defense using fast players to run on to. When we had the wind we thumped it up the park in the air, invariably going to their goalkeeper or out for a goal kick.
PNG can obviously play the game and aren't useless, but at the same time aren't great. If we can't even try to be a decent football team against them though, what hope do we have against stronger teams.
Hudson must go now..
NZF are tactical geniuses! They hire a cheap coach with false promises to win the Nations Cup, then will use that money to buy someone with better credentials.
if theres one thing NZF will do now about hudson it will be to give him a pay rise. The organization is a joke and i wouldnt expect anything less. Really hope something happens before the confeds cup because i cant deal with the shame of another mexico, tbh this side is playing worse than herberts did (atleast he could do hoof-ball well).
i mean.....shark...since 2010 Australia has won the asian champions league and is competing with top european opponents. Since then We've managed to digress into scraping passed island nations. I remember NZF promising that after 2010 it wouldnt be like 1982 and the game would grow and be something to be proud of. What a load of bollocks.
On the bright side, we did manage to field a full team of eligible players it seems, full marks there.
i think Marinovic was the only positive. Having him and Gleeson competing for a starting role in the future would be good
Unconfirmed word is that PNG have lodged protest about the "Fallon not wearing shinguards thing", hearing today...
Unlikely that New Zealand Football will get around to confirming our Confederations Cup entry anyway, PNG will be desperately unlucky if someone at NZF does happen to check the fax machine in the next 10 months and New Zealand do get in.

Shot AWs and to PNG for giving it to them, not easy to play in that kind of environment, and for the AW's that were under prepared with friendly internationals before the Nations Cup started - well done. to all the hater's that still hating. go get a life! can you do better as a coach....well then
Congrats on winning the title, I really hope NZL will do well in Russia, although that looks unrealistic.
Two questions:
1) when is the final WCQ round draw scheduled for?
2) why are OFC TV guys so obsessed with behind-the-goal camera and sideline camera? It's pretty disguisting to watch their highlights and they keep on doing it for ages now. You can't see nothing with those angles used.
Listening to the commentary last night I kind of wish that Fred was still with NZF. His departure hasn't stopped the incompetence and ineptitude in the organisation and he seems to be a critic of how Antony Hudson set up the team. As High Performance Director he would have at least been able to influence that.
Of course, that shows how bad the organisation is that Fred would be the voice of reason, he made some terrible decisions the eligibility saga notwithstanding - like forcing players to pay to represent the country. At least he's a football person.

Clearly he's infringed the rules if that's the case - but what is an appropriate response from the officials if they picked it up during the game? #youaretheref

It's the OFC, you can get a five game ban and miss a world cup for swearing.
