Maybe I'm naive but I'm confident in this New Zealand side. They seem to be putting in more of an effort all-round and playing with confidence.

I stand by it. Pain in PNG.

Many of the island teams havent been able to rotate their players like nz have due to tight play off positions. Hopefully fresh legs and determination will be an edge.

Tahiti also seemed a more technically able side to play but they couldn't finish in front of goal and paid the price.

Out of PNG, Tahiti and New Caledonia - i think we got the best outcome. Hopefully we can man mark Bertrand Kai out of the game.

This New Caledonian side is not like the 2012 one. Many players have changed, Nyikeine (GK) was injured and his replacement, Schmidt played so badly against PNG he was dropped from the starting eleven. So they are playing their 3rd option keeper. Gope-Fenepej is absent too and Zeoula has not shown why he's playing regularly in a Ligue 2 side so far. From the matches I've seen (PNG and Tahiti) they know how to keep possession but that's it. They don't create many chances and the ones they have, are usually wasted. If we can control both Saiko and Kaï, their attack is neutralized. And their defence is desorganized so Barbarouses and Rojas could create a lot of trouble on the wings.

So far I'd have to say, despite it all there seems to be a happier team culture this time around. And the tournament organisation and standard of officiating thus far seems very high also.

Only areas where this team shades that are Bill Tuiloma and Te Atawhai Hudson-Wihongi >>>> Killen at DM and so far Marinovic > Gleeson. But haven't been tested yet I guess

This time around the conditions weather are better, longer break between game, and we've had an extra day off than New Cali.

It has really put OFC in a decent light I think.

Agree a step up in organisation from 2012 but still a far cry from the Asian Cup hosted in Australia. Still know where I'd want to be.

But it is what it is and fingers crossed the better draw, squad rotation and more player friendly conditions see us win.

It just reinforces to me how much of a shame it is NZF stuffed up the Olympic team. A decent group of this squad would be reassembling in Rio in the not too distant future before doing so again in Sept/Oft for qualifiers.

I am enjoying what I am hearing from the players and staff. I think Hudson has instilled a good culture and that's a credit to him. Just hope we take this out then can start getting some positive news re the AWs for the mainstream sports fan.

Hopefully Anthony Hudson's son Te Atawhai gets a start

When you look a that 2012 line-up, seven of them were on the way out as national team players (I include Smeltz who has been hampered by injury and not a major force for NZ any more).

Players nearing the end of their All Whites careers:

Smith (may have been a bad influence attitude-wise?), Sigmund, Vicelich, Bertos, Killen, Lochhead, Smeltz.

The careers of Bertos, Killen and Lochhead went rapidly into decline after that period.

So, it's a case of a declining side versus one with a lot of new blood.

Wood, Barbarouses and McGlinchey are all much more influential players for NZ than they were then.

Post this tournament in PNG there are several players who will be available again like Reid, Moss, Henry Cameron, Roux, Ryan Thomas.

When does Deklan Wynne become eligible to play for NZ? He might end up being our best option at left back ahead of Doyle or Colvey.

Adam Mitchell might be in the picture if he progresse at Red Star Belgrade.

Missing out on the Olympics is painful but what sort of team could we put together? Many players are injured and thinking about the beach at the end of long seasons. Great to have world class games but wrong time of the year for small squads like ours.

Wood and Fallon score again, All Whites win 2:0

Norwich City supporter since 1992, New Zealand supporter since 2010 but without Rory Fallon's winning goal against Bahrain, I won't know about New Zealand Football.

Game tonight, will it be another Honiara... I don't think so. I think we will put our best team out there and win comfitable.

TAB thinks we are going to win.  We are paying 1.10 to progress, 1.22 to win outright in the game, and the lowest paying exact score is us 2-0.

I was hoping we might be closer with them knocking us out last time so I could make a few bucks.

Really looking forward to the big game tonight.

If you are heading along to the 4 kings, there is a private function downstairs. But, they are showing the football upstairs. C'mon All Whites!

PNG isn't a nice place to be at all. I saw a documentary where a village set a woman on fire because they thought she was a witch. Their government did nothing about it.

Anyway COYAW!!!!

Yeah and they all stand around filming the 'trial by fire' with the cheap smartphones the company I work for, sells to them. It can be a terrible place.

But right, enough of that... COYAW!

don't worry found it on twitter.

Is that really our best XI, why no Kosta or Rojas (admittedly the latter hasn't impressed)

Also Prelavic again?

agreed - TAHW has made every post a winner. Prelevic hasn't looked that good.
