Brockie and Boxall might arrive in time for this. Vanuatu probably the weakest of the three teams in our group. Discuss.
OFC Nations Cup 2016 - vs Vanuatu | Tues 31 May | 6pm | SS Popup
No way they would start. Don't they arrive on the day of the game? Even with our crap organisation that would be a bridge too far. That would be one bitch of a flight/flights.
anyone going to be watching this at the 4 Kings?
Monty Patterson did play well. I hope he shines and can go back with glory to Ipswich Town, just to make Tommy feel uncomfortable a little.
Considering the Solomon Islands beat them 1–0 if we can't retain a clean sheet in this match that would be a major disappointment.
I would like to see some changes considering Vanuatu is by far the weakest team in group B. Give Hudson-Wihongi, Rogerson and Ridenton a chance to prove themselves. With Barbarouses or Rojas on the wings and Wood in front of them we should be able to score a couple of goals. Just don't concede and we'll win it. Maybe Tuiloma as a CB instead of Brotherton.
I see that the Northern Ireland manager has been scouting the same team that has served past NZ managers so well, and selected Aaron Hughes from Unattached FC, for Euro 16.
Papua New Guinea vs New Caledonia happening right now. The OFC has provided an official stream. It's the 22nd minute right now. Still 0–0 with New Caledonia dominating. They scored a goal but it was ruled offside.
Next match will be Tahiti vs Samoa at 9pm, presumably also available via that link. Otherwise the OFC's Twitter handle is @OFCFootball.

I think it's the first time I'm enjoying a match between the Islands. NC plays some good fotball but PNG has some fast players up front. Having watched only 30 minutes I would say NC are serious title contenders if they can play like this the whole tournament.
Wow, funny you said that because PNG have just scored! Tommy Semmy the goalscorer. I haven't watched the last 10 minutes (cooking) but it was against the run of play. New Caledonia is a big team as far as Oceania goes, so this will be a true test of character for them.
Or maybe PNG will win it all with this enthusiastic home crowd?

Yeah, lol. NC is playing better but the defence is quite poor. They had plenty of chances but were unlucky. On the other hand, PNG got one and scored.
Interesting watching highlights of Solomons vs Vanuatu...although Solomons won, Vanuatu seemed to have a lot more of the chances and hit the woodwork 2-3 times

the basic skill level in this PNG vs NC game is atrocious

To be honest the basic skill level in NZ's games for the last couple of years has been pretty bad as well (aside from a few players like Chris Wood). There's a reason we've only ever made two World Cups.
Been fun to watch cheering on PNG, lost a man to 2nd Yellow then conceded a goal to make it 1-1. 90th min New Caledonia got a penalty but hit cross bar. Made for a great finish.
Papua New Guinea 1–1 New Caledonia.
The first encounter of Group A ends in a 1–1 draw, which I'd say is a fair result. Goals from Tommy Semmy (41') for PNG and Joseph Athale (83') for New Caledonia. Goalscorer Tommy Semmy received a second yellow in the 79th minute, allowing the visitors to get back into the game. Ligue 2 player Cesar Zeoula missed a penalty in the 91st minute! New Caledonia dominated the first half despite conceding, but PNG played very well up until they were down to ten men. After that New Caledonia were back in it but wasted their best chances, including that penalty.
So 1 point each to begin Group A. Next match is Tahiti vs Samoa beginning in 56 minutes.
It ended 1-1. What a game. Second half hard to watch but still very exciting.
Expecting a bloodbath with this next game, Tahiti should smash Samoa tenfold.

Unless Jai Ingham can single-handedly destroy them.
Edit: Apparently he's not in their matchday squad, maybe he's still with the Melbourne Victory? Well there goes their only hope.
Kickoff! Tahiti vs Samoa has just started.
OFC official stream: here.
Mickaël Roche (GK), Taumihau Tiatia, Nicolas Vallar (C), Vincent Simon, Tamatoa Tehauira, Tauhiti Keck, Henri Caroine, Heimano Bourebare, Alvin Tehau, Teaunui Tehau, Steevy Chong Hue.
Faalavelave Matagi (GK), Filipo Bureta, Marcus Alimonti, Henry Pupi, Ryan Martin, Andrew Mobberley, Lionel Taylor, John Hall, Desmond Fa'aiuaso (C), Mike Saofiga, Lapa Toni.
Tahiti 4–0 Samoa.
Tahiti's goals: Teaonui Tehau ×2 (2', 5'), Steevy Chong Hue (15'), Alvin Tehau (38').
The match was controlled throughout by reigning champions Tahiti. However, considering they defeated Samoa 10–1 in the first match of the 2012 Nations Cup this result can definitely be viewed as disappointing. They were up 2–0 at the fifth minute already, and 3–0 at the fifteenth; from there the goals per minute ratio kept decreasing and there were no goals at all in the second half. For Samoa there were few highlights, however one of them was Andrew Mobberley (Southern United) who was occasionally threatening in attack.
If New Caledonia and Tahiti are drawn on points it seems likely that New Caledonia could be ahead of the Tahitians on goal difference. If Tahiti end up second in the group it is quite likely that they could face New Zealand and for them that could very possibly mean an early exit in the semifinals for the reigning champions.
Teaonui Tehau went off injured for Tahiti, potential worry there.
Group A table:
Pos | Team | Pld | W | D | L | GF | GA | GD | Pts |
1 | Tahiti | 1 | 1 | 0 | 0 | 4 | 0 | +4 | 3 |
2 | New Caledonia | 1 | 0 | 1 | 0 | 1 | 1 | 0 | 1 |
2 | Papua New Guinea | 1 | 0 | 1 | 0 | 1 | 1 | 0 | 1 |
4 | Samoa | 1 | 0 | 0 | 1 | 0 | 4 | −4 | 0 |
Group B fixtures for Tuesday 31 May:
anyone going to be watching this at the 4 Kings?
Nighthawks have an 8:15 at Petone so a number of Fever will be in a pub somehwere in the Hutt watching before that.

KloppGoff and the North Wellington Rampage.
I guarantee you conditions in a pub will be better for the AWs game.
think Brockie and Boxall arrive on the day of the game so unlikely to be involved.

Fair call to give the younger guys a chance. However I would say that is exactly the game you would want Brotherton to play again and to show that the game against Fiji was a one-off low point. Better for the bloke than just not playing him again. If he has a poor game he can be subbed off by halftime.

Yeah I would agree. Check out the highlights on ofc tv thru YouTube. If Vanuatu can play as positively vs NZ they will be a handful. I would have expected the Solomon's to be way to strong but highlights suggest the GK kept them in it.

Did anyone manage to successful stream the game vs Fiji on Saturday?

The OFC stream is good but won't work in NZ due to game being on Sky. If you have something like *cough* Tunnelbear *cough* VPN *cough* then you can watch it by setting yourself in Australia or the Islands.
I did have *cough* Express *cough* VPN *cough* but I cancelled it once it stopped working for my *cough* US *cough* Netflix *cough*.
I might need to do some research into free option, thanks though!
you guys should see someone for that cough - sounds nasty and contagious.
If only there were some cough medicine - like if the game was available on fanpass. :p
How on Earth OFC puts videos like this online? What the hell is this? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JKHXF_34F2Y
