Highly doubt that it'll be packed for the game. But it's a Saturday evening with other sport on, so I imagine it'll be busy.

Just realized it's a Saturday so I've got enough time to make my way down a bit early and reserve a couple of seats!

Fudge it basically. I'm going to go watch a NRFL game and then go to Eden Park for the rugby instead of watching the AWs.

That's not a good omen for the coverage - the blue banner has the day for NZ's game vs. Vanuatu wrong.

It says Wednesday but it's actually Tuesday according to the detailed schedule you have below.

The 31st is definitely a Tuesday.

Ramon Tribulietx is "Technical Advisor" to the Solomons for duration of the tournament .

He's in Sydney now with the Solomons team.

Will give them an edge no doubt.

Fiji squad named - some of their big name experienced players seem to have been omitted.

Includes 12 players from their u-23's which toured Brazil recently.

Nickel Chand was good at the u-20 World Cup in NZ last year.

So was checking when the game was on Sky and what channel, they have put the games on the pop ups which means you can't even buy the Fan Pass to watch the game as it doesn't include the pop up channels. Game is on at 5.50pm Saturday against Fiji, doesn't have the other game between Vanuatu and Solomon Islands after.

FFS.

I was going to get Fan Pass for this but I guess not now.

Surely the problem of adding pop up channels to Fan Pass is the e sort of thing which could be solved by a competent programmer in a morning or something?

Had this discussion with Balbi on twitter, they could put the match on Sky 3 as that doesn't have live sport (1, 2 and 4 have Rugby, League and Netball). They either need to be putting this stuff on one of those channels or even better including the Pop Up channels in the Fan Pass (at the same price they have it now, not more)

there is F1 buildup on Sport 3

Checked that, there is F1 show and GP2 race highlights but the actual F1 practise that is live isn't on until 8.45pm and the football has finished by then with its coverage only going to 8pm

not really the point - they always pad live F1 with this kind of buildup - if you were a fan of F1 you wouldn't want this coverage to be on different channels so you had to flick backwards and forwards.

The problem actually lies with fanpass not offering Popups - not what channel it's scheduled on.

That is what I said, but really its our National Team playing qualifying for a chance to go to the World Cup, if Sky did actually care about Football then I would have expected it to be on a channel that people can watch even with Fan Pass but we know not enough watch it and it doesn't bring money in like Rugby or Formula 1 does. They don't appear to want to help Fan Pass be a success is probably the biggest problem. They would rather say "see it doesn't work, people don't use it"

I think your reaching - this is going to have limited viewship - so they are actually putting the events they think will rate best on Sport 1-4 which in turn benefits fanpass - yes it's unfortunate not to have our national team available to those on fanpass, but at least it's on at all.

I guess I just find it sad that it doesn't rate however as mention all this could be negated if pop up channels where on Fan Pass as well.

Also the statement at least it is on pisses me off, nothing personal against you but we shouldn't just be happy we are getting the games, we should be getting all games and then yes even if the other games are on pop up. All games are getting played at the one ground.

The issues around broadcasting are symptomatic not only of Sky's ongoing lack of adaptation to a changed operating environment (seriously, why can't pop-up channels be on FanPass as well?) but also on the complete lack of public profile and engagement from NZF. You can't blame the general public for not caring about the AWs when there has been absolutely nothing done too engage with them.

New Zealand football as a whole and NZF in particular are laughing stocks if they're even thought about at all. The eligibility scandal and the Alex Jones shambles are the only reasons they've even had any media coverage in years. Even the Russia friendly would have got some coverage that wasn't focussed on admin fudge ups, but we turned that down. Not having Reid there is also a blow to our profile. Frankly, you can't blame general kiwi sports fans for not getting excited about our 161st ranked team, minus its most famous player, playing on a paddock against teams of amateurs.

Just want to say I'm really looking forward to watching the NZ games on my telly, sitting on my couch, with a Asahi or three, some salt and vinegar chips, whilst my roast dinner is being cooked for me in the back ground.

Perfect timing as well it appears for all games.

Bring it on!!

Fair enough but there is zero market for the entire nations cup.  Maybe a free to air channel could pick them up?  Maori TV?

I know a guy (cough) who watches live sport on cricfree.tv (cough) but I couldn't say if it was any good (cough) as I personally have no experience of it (cough)

I also couldn't say if ONC was on there, but always worth a try.....if you are into live streaming. Which I most certainly am not (cough)

Sky go is hard to use outside of NZ, some good IP/Zone recognition software used there, not the easiest to get around and when I've managed it from the UK, was very unreliable.

I see Sky are being quite understanding about the Pop Up channels not being on FanPass... "FanPass general manager Cuan Gray, speaking in April, acknowledged the issue of pop-up content not being available on FanPass was a problem. But he said it was a good one to have as "we are starting to get to a size where it matters".

I think he's trying to indicated the non-NZ games can get 'steamed'. But he's saying it here instead of Twitter 'cause he doesn't want to land in hot water.

Tickets? don't be silly if you travel away to see NZ play you will probably be able to wangle tickets (or they are just happy someone has turned up - well that's what happened to me and 4 others in Poland in 2002)

What you need is $$$$ to pay for accommodation and also not drink too much to wander the streets at night as its not good over there apparently (I did look into going but accommodation was too much!)

I have been pretty critical of Hudson but I do feel sorry for him here. Thats a very weak AW squad, one of the weakest in a while. The prep in Aussie is probably going to be a huge help but the lack of build up games has to be a serious hinderance to him and the ability of the team to perform.

I hope he comes out of this well, it might just be the sort of experience that helps him get better at what he does. Probably a bit over dramatic but it really does feel like a circle the wagons type tournament for the AW's this time.

Actually reading Siggy book has made me feel a bit more sorry for Hudson, way it kind of reads is he is trying but isn't getting full support from New Zealand Football
