That's all well and good, but I still can't see why they haven't done it yet. If they have the technical capability to stream the other 4 channels why can't they just add a couple more?

Earlier the tournament was scheduled to be on two pitches, but this was halved to one.  Any chance this might happen to the commentators as well?

There is of course any easy answer. Just watch with no sound. Is it actually necessary to have some halfwit talking through the game to let you know what is happening right in front of you?

Chances are and knowing Sky, they will probably be doing the commentary from Auckland, so they will not be seeing anything you are not on the screen anyway.

Also, I've seen some footage of the ground and it looks better than expected. Maybe around QBE stadium for the OCL. Who knows how it will hold up.

is that statement correct?  isn't the incentive that if you happen to find yourself buying fanpass every weekend for a game that it's cheaper to subscribe to their traditional platform?  or am I missing something?

You can put it that way but there are alternatives which most young people with tech nous can do for free. So sky chooses to lose money by not catering to that market, thats fine by me. They can't fool all of us

I don't think anyone is trying to fool anyone - you have choices and that's good - it wasn't long ago people said it was a closed market so now there are choices which is good.  No-one is holding a gun to your head telling you to subscribe to SKY.

My point was really only in reply to the statement that SKY are deliberately watering down FanPass for no reason other than to keep customers from transitioning from a traditional model to the fanpass model - and I was pointing out that if content issues were solved that price was still an incentive to keep the traditional model if those customers were using FanPass enough to mean the traditional model was cheaper overall.

Really looking forward to watching the match on Saturday. Two and a half years is a long time since the All Whites last competitive match against Mexico. Especially considering the Socceroos have managed to clock up 17 in that time not including friendlies. Let's hope we go out win the Oceania Nations Cup and help put the All Whites back in the media for the right reasons.

Just been having a look through the squad that we took 4 years ago and comparing it to this year's...

Goalkeepers: Stefan Marinovic, Tamati Williams and Max Crocombe have a total of 4 caps, and none from games in the Pacific islands.  4 years ago: Mark Paston, Glen Moss and Jake Gleeson had a total of 51 caps between them, of which 4 were from games in the islands.

Defenders: Kip Colvey, Themistoklis Tzimopoulos, Michael Boxall, Louis Fenton, Luke Adams, Sam Brotherton and Tom Doyle have won a total of 23 caps, of which only Boxall has played in the Islands (2 caps).  None have scored an international goal.  In 2012 we took Ivan Vicelich, Michael Boxall, Tim Myers, Tony Lochhead, Ben Sigmund, Tommy Smith and Ian Hogg who had (at that time) 150 caps between them (Vicelich just over half of that) and had scored a total of 7 international goals (5 from Vicelich).

Midfielders: Matt Ridenton, Bill Tuiloma, Michael McGlinchey, Luka Prelevic, Te Atawhai Hudson-Wihongi and Moses Dyer have 46 caps (33 from McGlinchey, whose 2 goals are the sum total of all of their goals).  McGlinchey is the only player to have played a full international in the islands (5 times).  2012's midfielders were Leo Bertos, Michael McGlinchey, Aaron Clapham, Cameron Howieson, Tim Payne and Adam McGeorge, with 65 caps (Bertos and McGlinchey had 55 of those) but just 1 international goal (McGlinchey).  Bertos had played 3 times in the islands, but none of the others had.

Forwards: Kosta Barbarouses, Chris Wood, Marco Rojas, Monty Patterson, Rory Fallon, Jeremy Brockie and Logan Rogerson have 157 caps and 21 international goals, of which 40 caps and 4 goals have been in the islands (all the goals from Wood).  In 2012 Shane Smeltz, Chris Killen, Marco Rojas, Rory Fallon, Jeremy Brockie, Kosta Barbarouses and Chris Wood had 149 international caps and 26 goals going into the tournament, of which 11 caps and 4 goals were from matches in the islands.

What does it all mean?  Dunno really, just thought I'd try to put some numbers behind my concern about the lack of experience in the squad.  Interesting to note that only 1 defender (Boxall) and 1 midfielder (McGlinchey) is still there, while 5 of the forwards are having another crack at it.  Makes you wonder how many of these younger players will still be there in another 4 years.

Our midfield is better, and our forward line maybe a bit nippier, but have, perhaps, a less reliable scoring record.

Defensively...!

We have to remember though with the keepers- Paston got kicked in the head and out of the tournament and Gleeson didn't do well as a back-up. Here's hoping that though the keepers in theory have less experience they can do a better job.

Who are the All Whites? What sport do they play? I know of Leicester cause they have been on my TV in all sorts of exotic locations.

I need to know what these AWs do as I'm watching the big sports these days.

NBA and WRC and just to keep me on the lazyboy the AFL and Indy 500. Come on Atleti will be watching that game.

Media liaison at NZF yeah right give that person a Tui.

The UEFA Euro's -road to the cup is on SKY now. After watching this I'm a looking forward to it even more.

It also shows how big the gap is between the confederations.

We do need to leave this confederation - being seen in it is worse than kissing your sister. Even if you do win it you are still a joke to the rest of the footballing world. And playing in Asia is the only way the AWs are ever going to get meaningful and regular games.

That said, it is what it is for now. I am going to enjoy watching the AWs play on a paddock in front of rent a crowds in PNG. Better than watching re-runs of 1982...

Actually that's very true (to the extent it isn't dominated by forgeiners) but it's no coincidence that the Soccerroos and other Asian teams, the US have improved since the MLS, J, A and K Leagues were formed.

Funny how NZF never talk about the ASB Prem as anything other than where All Whites are created (if you are under 23) but certainly not where All Whites are made...

Man, I got the news I was hoping for today when Sky TV phoned me to confirm their Copa America coverage after I enquired earlier in the week

We're in for the biggest festival of football in the history of NZ with the announcement today that Sky are showing all 32 games in the Centenary Copa America starting Saturday week.

https://www.sky.co.nz/-/copa-america-centario-2016

Sky TV the next six weeks:

OFC Nations Cup 28 May - 11 June.

Centenary Copa America 4 - 27 June NZT (special edition with all the South American nations plus the best CONCACAF nations)

Euro 2016 11 June - 11 July NZT

All games in the Copa America live on Sport Pop-Up ch. 57

(replays and highlights on other channels)

There's still a special offer going for Sky Basic plus Sky Sport for six months minimum contract for $39 / month from a marketing company who work for Sky (less than $10 / week) - you can get the special offer for up to one year but it's six months minimum. They also give you a free My Sky Plus box to record everything on for up to one year.

I've been enjoying this offer very much for a few  months now.

ph. 0800 475 988 (Icon Marketing) on week days until you get someone answering - leaving a message usually isn't effective.

(only this number - you don't get the deal by phoning the regular Sky TV number)

No way, what about all the South American teams who are better than their European counterparts but all their players play in the European leagues? Chile, Colombia, Uruguay etc, let alone Argentina or Brazil. Sure their domestic leagues are good but not at the same level as the top European leagues. Even in Europe, teams like Belgium and Bosnia are better international sides than their league would indicate, while England is an obvious example in the other direction.

There's a rough correlation, for sure, but not enough to suggest that there's a direct causal link.

Just checked the long range forecast and it looks like there is a fair chance of thunderstorms and showers across the next two weeks. That could have a huge effect on how the pitch holds up.
