How come Roy can't score pens for us but can score against us.

What on earth was Brotherton up to there?

Kinda wish we had boxall available. Completely sucked in y the forward.

And I couldn't wish Roy to miss or have it saved...was really torn on that!

Louis Fenton is complete garbage. So weak on the ball and always indecisive

That pen came from Louis taking a terrible option and cutting inside to shoot on the left, gives it away and they break with us right up the pitch, watch the passage of play again

Bugger me that was u12 defending. Absolute garbage.

To give Hudson credit looks like he has gone with needs must tonight. Must be injury issues with Kosta and Weemac and with nobody capable of replacing them it's route 1 and hope for the best. Ugly but going ok so far

Really?

'Cos to me it looked like an inexperienced centre back being caught out by an experienced forward on a 2 on 5 counter. Louis has been fairly decent since he's come on and that was a good block against him to a shot with some power on it. Compare his crosses to Prelevic or the others. He's hit a couple of decent ones, best of the game.

Yeah a ball given away in the attacking 1/12th of the pitch is the reason a penalty was given....

attacking midfielders...

with all due respect to prelevic and patterson

we used to have players like billy harris, peter henry, keith braithwaite, tony levy, dave witteveen, johan verweij, kevin birch etc who could hardly get a game for new zealand

The defending was bad but Fenton is awful. He couldn't hold off a 12th grade girl in a 1 on 1 challenge, and he never contributes anything to a game other than stupid fouls and bad passes

What is the point of bringing in an an overseas coach to play this way? Sure he'll get the job done buthere are so many guys you could get in to do this, we are going nowhere

Yes, that certainly gave Fiji the counter attack opportunity, but you can't excuse that horrendous defending from Brotherton there.  All he had to do was hold him up.  He overcommitted initially, chucked a weak foot in and nearly gave away a penalty (probably would have if the Fijian had of gone down), then once beaten just shoved him over rather than trying to check back goal side.  Just awful.

Well we didn't last time. And I'm sure once we've got over this potential banana skin and he's developed a group of players we'll start to see a bit more range from him.

Jeez.

Not much point getting stuck into the coach at this point.

To be fair I thought Patterson was very good prior to doing his ankle

Also, bit harsh on Hudson - we have literally no midfield and the players who could play a passing game are either unfit or not there.

There is no point playing a passing game if you dont have the players for it.

There is zero logic in this. When attacking you need to take risks and sometimes you will lose possession. We should be able to deal with a counter attack especially given the fact we aren't throwing numbers forward leaving us lite at the back.

Fuck this stupid game

I think you're being harsh on Louis. Keeping in mind all he did was lose the ball in their third of the pitch.

i think JD has a point

i once played for a team that had a habit of conceding goals from our own attacking corners and throw ins

sloppy play in the front third can be a killer

but in saying that, the 14 players we left back should have got the job done

Our CB are playing College Soccer in America (for a horrendous school thats not even good) and in the State League in Australia. Easily the worst backline and lineup in the history of NZ football. This team wouldn't even dominate the Northern League hahaha

1000x this.  We wouldn't excuse Herbert trying to play this way, so why are we excusing Hudson.  The are plenty of Kiwi coaches we could get to bring together a squad for a few weeks a year and play route 1 second ball rubbish.

Dave Witteveen? He could shoot from 30 yards but that was about it. Levy was a nutter and Peter Henry was lucky to get through 60 minutes of a NL game. The past gets better the longer ago it was

imho any of those guys would tear this game up

didn't witteveen have an absolute bullet on him!

i certainly wasn't dissing patterson or prelevic, i quite like the both of them, but we used to be able to call on much much better and even the player we didn't call on were better

Exactly. Its very frustrating. There have been times in games in the past when I have seen the AW's move the ball around on the deck very effectively but we always default to this aerial bollocks.  Sometimes the coaches lack of belief in our players means our tactics are nothing short of archaic.

Virtually every ball launched forward in the air goes straight back to Fiji. Surely anyone with half a brain can see it really isnt working?
