A poor result, reading Stu's comments you'd think it was a good one.

Indonesia are ranked in the 130's. They are a poor quality team with no name players. We have to do better if we are going to be competative.

Good to see Brockie get another, hopefully he carries his form onand picks up a contract somewhere.

You're talking about an U23 NZ side playing a full Indonesian team (which performed creditably at the 2007 Asian Cup) in their own backyard in 30 degrees of heat. Let's get some perspective.

If the purpose of this tour is to provide strong oppostion in demanding conditions then it's on the right track. A 2-1 loss is not a 'poor result'.

Killen will be fitter than elliot, he's been playing build up matches in the UK with Celtic and some pre-season while Simon doesn't have a club

Normo's coming home

thats why you play him from the start holding midfield role he needs game time otherwise hell not be ready when it comes to the first game,

Thats why Stu Jacobs is the coach and youre not... I think Elliot wont be able to play full games at the pace of the U23 level at the olympics and giving him one full game where he might bugger himself out of training for a few games is not really smart. He's there for experience leadership and a cool head not neccessarily to run box to box for 90mins.

I guess i see it as a poor result, partly because i've never agreed that losing is ever a good result. A win is good, anything else isn't and trying to gloss it over or put it in to perspective doesn't change the fact that, on that day at that time, they wern't good enough.

But hey ideas like this is why particapation is the buzz word in sports today!!

Still a poor result.

I think sensible of Jacobs not to throw Elliot straight into a full 90 given he'd just got off the plane and had come out of off-season. But, his fitness should be ok, given he played something like 10 straight Fulham reserve team games without hitch at the end of last year after recovering from his injury.

are u telling me that from the bench for 70 mins his cool leadership  is going to impact positively on the team or u know something we dont re his fitness levels we are talking about central midfield holding role  not box to box  covering 10km in a match lets be real here

but in a warm up game, it really doesn't matter.  There are all sorts of things that we don't know about - the team might have trained in the morning before the game, they could have been trying a completely different style of football (humping the ball forwad) for the whole game, incase they have to resort to that in the last 5 minutes of a game.  I would also assume that the boys never went in to a tackle for avoid getting injured.

All in all, a good blow out, with the result immaterial.  Nothing to do with them not being good enough, or them just being there to participate.

All I do is make the stuff I would've liked
Reference things I wanna watch, reference girls I wanna bite
Now I'm firefly like a burning kite
And yousa fake fuck like a fleshlight

on their first game against second division side persikota they lost 2-0
TBH they just had strong showings in their last four previous outings before that game, including wins over Chile and the A-League Minor Premiers Central Coast Mariners. They basically got off the plane a couple of day before with niggles and fatigued.

However a 2-1 loss to the Indonesia National Team is a huge step up.

They grabbed a 2-2 draw against Indonesian Super League Persija Jakarta using a make-shift line-up with three African trialists from Persija to make up the numbers as they rest several players in New Zealands seventh game in just over three weeks.

Jacobs even introduced the squads sport scientist Andrew Foskett as a late substitute to ensure all players remained fresh as the team headed for Beijing, and a possible training match against Honduras.
It was a brave effort, in what was essentially an exercise for their fans, Jacobs said.

At the end of the day we didnt want to risk anyone more than we had to on what was an atrocious pitch, but there was a decent crowd and there was an obligation to front up.

Its not the sort of thing youd expect to play international football on but the lads did what theyve done all along and just knuckled down got on with it.

It shows that mentally and physically were at a really good level. The team couldve bottled it but were really professional in grinding out a result.

. . .

Jacobs was pleased to see Killen and fellow over-age player Simon Elliott both play extended minutes and may yet get the chance to give Ryan Nelsen match practice with his new team-mates after the Blackburn defender joins the side in Beijing.

Jacobs was in discussions with his Honduran counterpart and Chinese officials about a behind-closed-doors hit-out against the North and Central American champions next week.

If we get Honduras game across the line we can get our best 11 on the park including Ryan before we face China on August 7.

This game was likely a kick around with some of the underused players as some of the first choice players that have been playing a bit are rested.

Good to see that there is an attempt to integrate Ryan some game time before the first olympic game against China. as well as one more kick off to bring it all together with the first choice players. The level and difference will be very clear for the players as well as a step up against the Central & Northern America Champions Honduras. You can't get ask for better preparation than that without a bit more money involved.

along with most of the posts recently, i'm happy with the focus to be on building up for the olympics not winning meangless games now

the line-up from last night suggests that the backroom boys perhaps understimated the physical loading on the players from this build up sequence (good to see they've responded to it though)
