I doubt they'll be televised or on the radio.

Australia womens team beat us 1-0, the score in the mens game isn't up yet.

Oly-roos (such a stupid name) are leading the Oly-whites 2-1 at halftime.

Brockie scored our goal.

Under 23's v New Zealand Update
Saturday, 12 July 2008

Qantas Under 23s v New Zealand - 2-1 HT

Kick-off 2.00pm

We will have Pre-Match, Half-time and Full-Time Updates of the Under 23s and New Zealand match.

Half time Update

The Qantas Under 23's lead 2-1 at half time after Kristian Sarkies hit a superb volley in the 38th minute to break a 1-1 deadlock. Captain Mark Milligan had given Australia the lead in the 26th minute with a brilliant header from a Sarkies corner, but it was quickly cancelled out when former Sydney FC striker Jeremy Brockie looped a header over Tando Velaphi two minutes later. Ruben Zadkovich very nearly put Australia ahead after just 30 seconds but his lunging effort went over the bar. Brockie had two chances for New Zealand in the 17th and 21st minutes, whilst Nikita Rukavytsya saw a shot cleared off the line in the 22nd minute.

Pre-Match Update

Australia line-up: Tando Velaphi (gk); Jade North, Stuart Musialik, Mark Milligan, Nikola Topor-Stanley, Kristian Sarkies, James Troisi, Matthew Spiranovic, Trent McClenahan, Nikita Rukavytsya, Ruben Zadkovich

Under 23's v New Zealand Update
Saturday, 12 July 2008

Qantas Under 23’s v New Zealand - 3-2 FT

Kick-off – 2.00pm

We will have Pre-Match, Half-time and Full-Time Updates of the Under 23’s and New Zealand match.

Full time Update
Captain Mark Milligan has scored twice including the winner in the 78th minute in an entertaining game. Jeremy Brockie scored both New Zealand goals, adding a second goal in the 52nd minute with a well taken finish. Australia had the better of the overall play, but New Zealand showed plenty of ticker in keeping Australia honest. Milligan's winner came after he managed to win the ball at ground level from a Sarkies free kick into the box, went past one Kiwi defender and then slotted home from 6 yards. Sarkies was denied a second goal late, his volley tipped over the bar by the keeper

(FFA)

Would've thought they Olyroos would do a better job to be honest, certainly not looking like a medal prospect with that sort of result. Sounds like NZ played well though.

A very good result, particularly considering we don't have any of our overage players and they did available.

Good to see Brockie get a couple of goals. A long time between drinks for that boy. A little disappointed conceeding three goals, thought our defence would be our strength. Hopefully Nelsen will sort this out.

Reasonable result I guess. I would have liked victories in both games but I guess we can take positives away fromm the fact we were extremely competitive in both.

We had no Henderson or Scott who would normally start so must have been trying some things.

Meanwhile they had North and Archie as over-age player while we had none of ours.

With the hosts leading 2-1 early in the second half, Brockie took possession and beat three Australian defenders before rounding goalkeeper Tando Velaphi and nudging the ball home.

From the link to NZ Soccer on the homepage:

LOL!!!

I wish there was some video coverage of this - sounds like NZ pushed Australia quite hard, and with the over-age players getting out of their group might not be as impossible as once thought? Other than the game against brazil :)

Thats interesting because everyone on here thinks That Hogg lad his rubbish...end of the day...seems his nutcase attitude( as described by some) is coming handy for this team..
Bloody good on the lil lad i say...

that seems like a pretty decent result, after being in oz when the roos qualified last year i seem to remember arnold being in the press talking up there medal chances and about how he wanted to take them on tour and play 20odd games together. guess that hasn't happened? or if it has its been unsucessful at best.
on the olywhites, i think we may go all right. im not predicting a medal but as long as we dont embarass ourselves i think its a positive

I read the Aussie Football Fed match report. According to that they really should have buried us and derserved to win by alot more.

I'm guessing the truth lies somewhere in the middle, reporters always talk up their team, whether they win or lose so.

So not as uncompetative as the Aussie site says, and not as competative as the nz soccer site says.

Stii with our overage players coming we should improve. Can any one say what our formation was?

Pretty much every match ive watched NZ play Aust we've played without the ball for long periods. They are just technically superior and able to hold the ball. So, it would not surprise me if we did a lot of defending. You would have to expect that. But, it sounds like we did a decent job limiting their space and making it difficult for them. We are always going to find it more difficult to score goals, so the fact we got 2 and one of them was a piece of magic, is encouraging.

Australia away is a bloomin difficult prospect. That scoreline is a decent effort I reckon, however the game played out.

I have at no point knocked Ian Hogg but Zadkovich is rubbish... complete and utter tosh.  His agent must have wet himself getting him a Championship gig.

I just watched the goal highlights on SBS. Brockie's two were excellent, especially the second which was a mixture of brilliant skill and tenacity: he beat three players and the keeper to put it away. Nice one! Unfortunately the winner for Oz seemed to result from the NZ defence stopping to claim a handball, allowing Milligan to score. But overall a good effort and a very good workout for both teams.

There was also a profile on the NZ team with interviews with Jacobs, Old and Ellensohn. Of course, it had that slightly patronising undertone that the Aussies always have but at least they gave us the time of day. Some video footage might turn up here a bit later: http://theworldgame.sbs.com.au/home/

Does anyone think that Brockie will ever get a contract with the Phoenix?

It's easy to forget he's still only 20. He shined for the Knights and was screwed around by Sydney and now isn't even standing out in the NZFC.

If he isn't standing out in the NZFC, I wouldn't rate his chances of being competitive in the A-League.
Let him regain his form first, then we should consider him - lucky he's young enough for it not to be too late.

Hey if the Olywhites beat CCM today does that suggest/indicate that we have reasonable grounds to have a second NZ A-league team because of the potential of our young players?

. . . just putting it out there.

Highly unlikely. Australia has tonnes of franchise bids - some might argue that one NZ team is bad enough (not me though ).

What I'd personally like to see as a reaction to such a situation is NZers being considered domestic for the other Australian teams, just like we do. More opportunities, and the Phoenix won't have what some have accused of being an added advantage in we can have unlimited Aussies AND Kiwis. Of course, before that could happen we'll have to join the AFC...
