Kick-off 2.00pm
We will have Pre-Match, Half-time and Full-Time Updates of the Under 23s and New Zealand match.
Half time Update
The Qantas Under 23's lead 2-1 at half time after Kristian Sarkies hit a superb volley in the 38th minute to break a 1-1 deadlock. Captain Mark Milligan had given Australia the lead in the 26th minute with a brilliant header from a Sarkies corner, but it was quickly cancelled out when former Sydney FC striker Jeremy Brockie looped a header over Tando Velaphi two minutes later. Ruben Zadkovich very nearly put Australia ahead after just 30 seconds but his lunging effort went over the bar. Brockie had two chances for New Zealand in the 17th and 21st minutes, whilst Nikita Rukavytsya saw a shot cleared off the line in the 22nd minute.

Qantas Under 23’s v New Zealand - 3-2 FT
Kick-off – 2.00pm
We will have Pre-Match, Half-time and Full-Time Updates of the Under 23’s and New Zealand match.
Full time Update
Captain Mark Milligan has scored twice including the winner in the 78th minute in an entertaining game. Jeremy Brockie scored both New Zealand goals, adding a second goal in the 52nd minute with a well taken finish. Australia had the better of the overall play, but New Zealand showed plenty of ticker in keeping Australia honest. Milligan's winner came after he managed to win the ball at ground level from a Sarkies free kick into the box, went past one Kiwi defender and then slotted home from 6 yards. Sarkies was denied a second goal late, his volley tipped over the bar by the keeper

Would've thought they Olyroos would do a better job to be honest, certainly not looking like a medal prospect with that sort of result. Sounds like NZ played well though.

Meanwhile they had North and Archie as over-age player while we had none of ours.

I wish there was some video coverage of this - sounds like NZ pushed Australia quite hard, and with the over-age players getting out of their group might not be as impossible as once thought? Other than the game against brazil :)
on the olywhites, i think we may go all right. im not predicting a medal but as long as we dont embarass ourselves i think its a positive

I have at no point knocked Ian Hogg but Zadkovich is rubbish... complete and utter tosh. His agent must have wet himself getting him a Championship gig.

Thanks to the the person that put the link up for the goals..that 2nd goal from nz lad was a great solo goal..reminds me of some of the goals micheal owen would score.
It's easy to forget he's still only 20. He shined for the Knights and was screwed around by Sydney and now isn't even standing out in the NZFC.

If he isn't standing out in the NZFC, I wouldn't rate his chances of being competitive in the A-League.
Let him regain his form first, then we should consider him - lucky he's young enough for it not to be too late.
. . . just putting it out there.

Highly unlikely. Australia has tonnes of franchise bids - some might argue that one NZ team is bad enough (not me though
). What I'd personally like to see as a reaction to such a situation is NZers being considered domestic for the other Australian teams, just like we do. More opportunities, and the Phoenix won't have what some have accused of being an added advantage in we can have unlimited Aussies AND Kiwis. Of course, before that could happen we'll have to join the AFC...
Go Oly-Whites!!
