I've just been reading about the Olympic qualifing procedure that we will have to go through to get to the Olympics and whilst I'm quite comfident on both our mens and womens teams qualifying, I am worried that the NZOC will not let them take part, especially the men (this is due to the fact that they are going to make their decision based on the AWs and U20s performances this year, which realisitically haven't been all that great).

That aside, the following would be the mens team that I would pick (The ladies are easy, the under 20s plus ladies like Rebecca Smith).

Draper, Brockie, Spoonley, Old, Pelter, Keat, James, Tinkler, Reid,

Over age: Nelson, Killen, Ivan

Actually this is quite a short list, I'm struggling to think of quality young NZers that would qualify.

Why would you take these three guys?

Because we are allowed three players over the age of 23 and we would be silly to not use them, given they ARE OUR BEST OVER 23s.

Use them for the Olympics? Doubt they'd be released by their clubs for what's not really a prestigious tournament in world footballing terms. Doubt that the guys themselves would be keen on being involved in it, the three over-23 spots should be probably go to NZ based guys needing more international experience and exposure.

The Olympics won't clash with EU footie and as this is a FIFA event they would not be made unavailable by their clubs plus many of Brazils top players including "clown face" played in the previous olympics.

It's in the middle of the European off-season and pre-season, that's not a good time for either the players or the clubs. No countries that I can recall have played their best players in the tournament (obviously some of the best players now have played when they were younger and not among the top players in their country), and I really see no reason why they should.

If there's no preperation for the U23's - it doesn't matter who is involved - they won't even qualify...

My team:
Dave Samson, Cole Tinkler, Greg Draper, Costa, Stu Hogg, Daniel Ellensohn, Spoonley, Aarron Scott, Kris Bright, Sam Jasper, Jeremy Brockie, Chris James, Jack Pelter, Boxall, Phil Edginton and a couple more U20's lads...

There's also that U17's keeper Gleeson

Chris James is a good choice but hes seen sweet FA action and his dission not to play in the U20 WC really F#$k things up for him, He could have easly been scouted through it but he chose to go back to fullam to get a contract...rest is history - Point is he would do well in the Olympics and he would IMO get scouted from another top club from Euro.

Ivan would be a great O/A player to have...I would rather like to see a centrel defender O/A player then a striker.

Mens team must have Cory Chettleburgh.
Profile pic. Should you be interested. Lakhsen, on the right, lost touch with him.
Mohammed, on the left, I'm still in touch with. He's now living in Agadez, Niger. More focused on his animals now as tourism has dried up. Is active with a co-op promoting local goods, leather work and bijouterie, into Europe.
