from the following article on stuff - http://www.stuff.co.nz/4684182a18075.html

While New Zealand have two games left in this tournament, thoughts are already turning to the bigger business next year. Herbert said New Zealand Football had already told him discussions would come "sooner, rather than later" over such issues as player releases for star performers such as Ryan Nelsen and securing high-quality friendlies before the Confederations Cup.

That would indicate there's a solid chance of some decent friendlies before the Confed Cup. Perhaps do some research before jumping to conclusions next time

What would be great but will never happen is if you could get Australia over here to play 3 games, take them to Auck, Welly and Chch. Would be massive. Especially if both teams were at somewhere near full strength.
But in all seriousness why havn't they carried on with the playing OZ in London thing? That was a good idea but i guess now with most of our team based here and in the US it would be just as tough and expensive to get a team to London as it would bring them home bopman2008-09-07 18:56:37

Why not an A League based Australian team?

It would be good development for their domestic players, would give their coach time to assess whether they could step up, and would also be about the same level as the All Whites.

We get a million bucks for geting into the confeds cup. Surely they must use that to get us some friendlies and hopefully some more home games ( all whites vs new caledonia at NHS was Awesome!).

Aussie just announced a $10 million budget for their World Cup preparation. $1m is nothing.
Oh Wellington is wonderful. We got the wind, the rain and the phoenix. Oh Wellington is wonderful.

But an annual transtasman Bledisloe, called the Rufer (or suggestions...) would be awesome and get more publicity. As long as it is in international playing window so both sides can be full strength.

Yeah, Australia can't wait to play AWs in friendlies...why would they bother playing the likes of Argentina, Uruguay, The Netherlands and Greece in friendlies when they can play us...

Yeah, it was called the Oceania Nation Cup and then Australia took off to AFC with the tail wagging between it's legs.

Oh wait hang on a bit. . . . AllWhitebelievr2008-09-16 16:38:31
