Our best world cup performance ever?

In my opinion so far after watching most of the world cup games (and all of ours) this team has produced our best ever showing at a world cup or olympic event so far, even taking into account the draw at the olympics.

My reasoning behind this is
1: The way the team built up to the event was well executed i.e all living in the same city, playing together etc. There is no reason this could not be done for our u17 boys as well.
2: How we have played i.e. attacking attractive football.
3: the close results against teams expected to advance a lot further in the compitition
4: The fact that tacticaly, skill wise and physically we are equal to the teams we have played so far and also look better than at least 50% of the other teams.
5: The team has gone out to win not to just sit back and try and get a result, which is the usual way we play.

This is a credit to the players, their parents for the sacrifices they made and importantly the coaching staff, NZ Football have finally got something right

This should lead to an increase in girls and women playing football and this will only improve our chances in future international events.

It has been done for the U17 boys - prior to the 99 U17 World Cup.  We did well there too.

I agree with your other points though - it's been good to watch.

Incredible stamina. No shame. Yellow Fever.

tend to agree with most points and general sentiment- but

1982- a hell of a long road to even qualify, as if FIFA ereally didn't want us there- even making those finals was like a championship win

but, enough of the past...to the future and beyond!! (is there a buzz lightyear smiley?)

Ain't that the truth. Wasn't it 23 games? I still remember that 3-3 draw against Aussie to kick it off. Including Ricky's mullett!

Yes, Fifa's attitude then was that the world cup should be the top European and South American teams only. At men's level, that hasn't really changed too much either, but we live in hope!.

Proud to have attended the first 175 Consecutive "Home" Wellington Phoenix "A League" Games !!

our kiwi girls have been very competitive at both games to date and with an ounce of luck could have had one draw and a win not two losses.
Perhaps a  bit of inexperiance showed.
Looks good for the future if this squad can stick together.
