Yeah, of course not.

Three for me, and two for them.

personally I think Wed is dumb and I won't be going as don't work in the city but do have fri arvos off. But I also think that people are over estimating how many out of towners wd have been down on a friday arvo anyway since those who are true fans wd have booked their travel when the game was first announced & it wd have cost more than the original flight (if cheap fares) to rearrange

and I have to say that from my view point of a new footy fan who isn't half as passionate (obsessed) as all you that the vibe I get re the wgtn public's enthusiasm for both the parade & Boca game is muted. All my workmates and friends who talked nothing but football over 5weeks never mention it now - hopefully they'll retain some of the passion they felt during the cup but realisticly I'm guessing they won't get fired up again till Phoenix are mid season and on a winning streak

Actually, just thinking about it don't you think it's really poor form of Wellington to have the Boca Juniors game at all? It's really unfair on people who don't live in Wellington.

wellingtonians are so selfish they never think of football fans in other cities.

at least they could have asked footpaul when it would have been most convenient for him to have the game.

Can you please tell me - if you lived in Wgtn - would you go to the parade?

Because he has nothing else to do? I don't know, best ask him.

Depends, could be a good excuse to get out of work. I already said if it's going to happen, it might as well have good numbers so I guess I would use it as an excuse to get out of work for a while and either get there, think this is stupid and leave after I've given a bit of a wave, or I'd get there and realise how wrong I was. Since I don't live in Wellington, we'll never know.
I'm sure he does have other things to do, so he must appreciate the public support. I  think you are saying in a retarded fashion you would go to a parade if it was in your home town.

Well, yes I would go, but I also listen to politicians I wouldn't vote for and go to movies that sound stupid as well.

Seeing as my original post was a few pages back, I'd like to re-state that I do love the All Whites and am proud of their World Cup efforts. Just having a little discussion about a parade, that is all.

I don't think that many people are coming down though. Like you said the Boca game is quite muted-PAX is about at 6000, I find it pretty hard to believe that from those numbers a large portion are from out of town like November 14th or the Galaxy game. The Parade should still get a decent turnout just due to the fact it's around lunchtime, and the game should get some exposure to the media and general public. I agree that the parade is for celebrating the All Whites primarily but certainly it has been based around the Boca game and so this covers both.

And yes, it does suck that Paul and some other die-hard fans traveling will miss the parade but unfortunately there's probably not enough of an audience to warrant having it on the friday.

Yeah, I'm over it.

Re. The Boca game and out-of-towners: I wonder how many out-of-towners are like me in that they plan to buy their tickets when they get into Wellington. That's my plan if it looks like it won't sell out. It saves getting into that position where you don't know how many of your mates really will end up coming, and you don't want to buy a heap of tickets in case any of them pike. I could come down with a dozen guys, or I could end up driving down by myself! Either way I'd prefer to buy the tickets down there. If there are more like me, Pax could be boosted by a few. Depends how many out-of-towners are making the trip, really.

Nah, you got that wrong. The WCC is going to save money by cancelling the Christmas parade and putting Santa into this one.

Don't get me wrong, I love Wellington, and the people. Easily New Zealand's best city. I love going there. I hope to move there! I just made the mistake of posting my personal preference of when the parade should be held. Turns out I forgot it was a promotional event for the Nix rather than a chance for the public to show their appreciation to the All Whites... (lights fuse, runs away)

At least I'm not one of the ones saying there should be no parade, ffs!

Well...Its true,it is. The WCC organised the event as a festival of football, all probably designed with the goal to raise the profile of the nix and the Boca game.

Wednesday,as others have pointed out,is the best time of the week for this parade to happen. Itll get the most coverage, and more people will be able to turn up.

There is no "screw you rest of NZ" here at all. You're making it up and being very over-dramatic about it.

I was just thinking the same about some of the replies to me voicing my opinion! I understand that Wednesday might be the best day for promoting the Boca game, but I fail to see how there would be more people than Wednesday. Can you elaborate?

I think people are over estimating the effect this parade will have on ticket sales for the Boca game. Considering the price of tickets casual fans have been priced out. I don't think too many people who rock up to the parade will then think "sh*t, that parade was good, I feel like splashing out and watching some football". You'll have better luck encouraging more out-of-town football nuts to come down who are willing to pay for the tickets.

Again, previous comments about the parade keeping football momentum going are rubbish too. Wellington is not going to have any problem with football momentum - the Nix are playing top football in your city every couple of weeks for the next few months. It is the rest of the country that needs to remain engaged. So it is important to get the entire country right behind the Nix - think about that next time anyone wants to have a moan about pre-season games in Hamilton, or regular season games in ChCh. But in saying that it is the Wellington Phoenix, so I understand any angst around keeping it the capital's team.

And for the record, nowhere did I say other cities should have parades, in fact one of my first posts I said Wellington was the only appropriate city, as it is New Zealand's football capital.

All I wanted was for the Friday to be similar to the "festival of football" experience of November 14. Clearly too much to ask!

Deep breaths, everybody.

Its the councils parade, they can do what they want with it. If they think Wednesday will get the most exposure, then good on them.

Nobody is overestimating anything,I personally dont think itll do anything to promote the Boca game, but the council do.

You also havent explained what caused your tirade that "wellington fans arent better than the rest of NZ" because it still has nothing to do with that at all. You would have a point if NZF organised the parade, but its the wellington council organising it for Wellington people. So yes, quite frankly you don't have much of a say in when the parade is held, nor can you come on here and slag wellingtonians off for it.

Other councils are welcome to have their own parades so their city can show their appreciation to the team, have a lolly scramble and see santa,or whatever happens at parades.

But yeah we only put it on a wednesday as a screw you to the rest of the country.
