I'm gutted about this being on Wednesday. I'm coming down for the Boca game and would have loved to have cheered on the boys. Friday, as it was originally rumoured to have been held, would have been perfect. There's no way I can come down on Wednesday.

I've got an EPOL lecture on at 1. Having some trouble deciding whether to skip it or not.

Really, really stupid idea. They were amazing, but surely a parade for drawing three football games is a bit much? All this says to the outside world is that we are still a footballing backwater, despite the steps forward we took during the WC.

Craig Foster was advocating a parade for the Aussie U20's who lost three in a row...

I wonder if the Aucklanders and Waikato-ites at the meeting would understand if at some point between 12-2 I stood up, waved my scarf around a bit and launched into Ricki Herbert's All White army!

Is it school holidays currently or do most children miss out?
Well I think it's a real shame that children at school can't go to something like this. Things like this are better for kids than anyone else - to see their heroes and all the excitement. Maybe some of the schools will take kids along, but a lot will miss out.
There may well be logistics behind the decision of what day to hold it, but it's a shame it's not on a weekend.

I do find a parade a little bit weird, to be honest.

Fans will be able to get autographs of their favourite players after the parade. Non-Wellington All Whites Ivan Vicelich and Aaron Clapham have confirmed their attendance and US-based Simon Elliotttt is flying in from the United States.
hmm long way to fly just for a parade.

I reckon they'd get five times more on the Saturday, or even the Friday. Hopefully kids get the day off school. I remember the whole school getting bused into the Auckland CBD for the parade when New Zealand won the snail boat races when I was 12. It was cool.

Sorry, but as an Aucklander i can only laugh. You lot love having a pop at the incompetency of the ARC, and then this happens. What piss poor timing. Take a bow WCC, you are the in vogue shambles.

I don't see what the angst is.
The idea is to have it before the Friday night game as a 'festival' item - and a promotional item for Friday, at least that way you have 10's of thousands already in town and working. Most parades in Wellington are done during the lunch period in town.
Schools in this day and age aren't going to be getting kids in to town on the weekend anyway.
They wouldn't get some huge numbers Saturday as:
A, most of the Wellington football population are playing.
B, A lot of the target audience will have had a big night out at Boca on Friday night.

Midweek Sevens parade? It works, I'm not fussed.

Sure it's for Wellington, but it is disappointing for those of us who were looking forward to it if it had been scheduled for Friday before the Boca game. I was going to start my eight-hour drive earlier just to get to it. Wellington has missed out on my tourist dollar - I'm going to have lunch in Levin now!

Works on a Friday. Does seem odd timing but I remember a lot of schools bought kids into town for the Shield Parade in 08 when the Lions first won it.
Hopefully they do the same this time. If its a good day they will get a good crowd solely because of the number of people that work in the area.

Are you sure 7s parade is on Fridays? I always thought it was on Thursdays, with Friday and Saturday being the competition days.
Like News said, it's hardly an issue, and I think it's good to have two extra days to build up the Boca game rather than doing all this on the matchday itself.

Yeah that's what I thought. I used to go to school in Thorndon and they'd take us down for the 7s parade, I'd say a few school kids should be there.

Well, you all either know me in real life or hate me on the message boards so I'll dig myself deeper.
I'm with the Lemon, it's over the top, unnecessary and the reason I disagree with Tigers is I think it will if anything distance ourselves from 'regular' New Zealanders even further.
I say this because we pride ourselves in punching above our weight (which we did, don't get me wrong) but we, as a nation, tend to like quiet achievers, people who get the job done without too much of a song and dance.
I think by over-celebrating three draws we'll alienate regular New Zealanders.
Is the parade the only thing you can think of to celebrate? Are we saying this is it? Give them a parade once they get out of the group in 2014 Maybe (to the parade, not to if we'll get out of the group or not)
I'm also unsure if the players would really want this, won't a bunch of pro athletes (mostly) feel a bit embarrassed about a parade for a few draws?
Not that I care, but it's also a good chance for the egg chasers to stick the boot in.
I'm one of the proudest All Whites fans around, but a parade. No.

I don't think it's good for our profile at all. I think the on the field action was enough and the rest is just fluff.

How did they get welcomed back? With a parade or at the airport (like we already did) or with something in-between the two.
I guess at the end of the day people can either go or not go. Hopefully the people of Wellington like the idea more than I do, I guess at the end of the day, this is happening so it might as well have a good turnout.
Contradiction I know but meh.
