Great servant to NZ Football, wish him the best of luck in his post football career. His save vs Bahrain will always be part of NZ Football folklore.

Always seemed to me to be a great team man. And like RR said, that save will live on for a long long time.

All the best for whatever comes next!

What a proper legend Pasty is. I wish he was still playing. He'll go down in history as one of the key figures of this period of All Whites and Phoenix football. And he is the nicest guy you could hope to meet.

Incredible stamina. No shame. Yellow Fever.

A couple of great photos from the Bahrain game (not taken by me, unfortunately!) Someone called Andrew Turner/Yellow Bond. (spotted some other cool football shots in his photo stream too)

I love the second one- the timing is so good- we can see the save has been made, but he crowd are still a split second away from realising, so you get all the tension of the moment too.
Paston- freaking legend!

Has been a very good player. First watched him when he was a kid for Napier City. Good luck.

Kevin Thompson scored against him.  I could never take him seriously as a goalkeeper or a person after that happened.

Without a doubt I'd say this will bother him to the end of his days.

I imagine this would be the case for any keeper Thommo scored against.

From one of last seasons scapegoats to the best thing ever. Didn't even have to play a game to achieve it! What fickle fans we are.

Quality man. Good keeper. Retirement earned and unlocked. Enjoy

With the loss of his experience and reliable character, it's going to leave us with only unproven youngsters: a 19 year-old and two 23 year-olds or the 26 year-old Spoonley (whose career hasn't really kicked on) if Moss gets injured. As Worthington says in the Dom-Post:

"Glen Moss is now the clear No 1, with Jake Gleeson, Michael O'Keeffe, Scott Basalaj and Jacob Spoonley vying to be his back-up.

"We certainly haven't pencilled anybody in," Herbert said.

"Jacob Spoonley's been part of what we've done and has never let us down, neither have the other boys. I thought O'Keeffe had a very good Olympic campaign so we've got some food for thought."

Heard the radio coverage of Paston's Bahrain save this morning, had never heard it before and it sent shivers down me spine.

Thanks for the memories Paston, true legend.
