I usually place women's sport right up there with watching grass grow.  And Telfer, don't get me started about netball.  But NZ are 1-0 up against the Koreans (in Korea).  Half time.  Huge crowd.  Goal was somewhat 'unconventional'....but Enjoying it... tigers2008-06-15 21:23:50

61 minute.  NZ  still 1-0 up.  Great save kiwi keeper.  All Korea.  But really, we're defending better than the Nix to be honest.    Kiwi women, defending like they are demented ... tigers2008-06-15 21:24:26

Ah f**k it. Two goals in two minutes.  The Korean 2nd was miles offside.  2002 ref cheating all over again.

Full time.  2-1 to the Koreans.  2nd goal was only 3 metres off side.  Lots of guts NZ girls.

Thanks Stevo.

NZF and I are having a few difficulties getting through to the NZF crew in Korea, as their phones don't work there, apparently.

Could you email me off-list with a few more observations please?

Cheers,

Observations...

Missed the first half.  Though did see the goal highlights...

Off a corner?  One Kiwi girl went for a "shot"...went about 50 metres in the air.  Gladly accepted by another Kiwi girl.  Banged it home.  1-0.

2nd half.

All Koreans.  Missed a couple of fine chances.  Great kiwi save.  66 min? - scored.  Didn't see.  Was having a fag.  Then two mintute later...

Korean girl three metres off side.  Slots it away.

The Koreans seemed to make great inroads down the left side for whatever reason.  Defended hard the Kiwi girls.  Full time.  In fine korean tradition - the land of fair play - the Koreans run to each other in self congratulations.  Didn't shake hands with the Kiwi girls.

Big crowd (20,000+?).  Albeit mainly teenage girls, due to a rather effeminate Korean boy band doing a half time pitch walk-around.  One for the Nix marketing department perhaps?

Marty.  MBC ESPN.  Didn't see the er...Kiwi ladies...today.  And while Korea no doubt has a fascination with Man Yoo or whenever the national team plays in the world cup - I doubt if they'll be much of an audience for NZ v Argies womens football.  They'll probably stick with the big games only (i.e., Korea v whoever)...

Before the year has even finished, I voting this team for our best performed game by an international nz football team of the year just by the games against top trier teams they had played so far.

Thank goodness, the NZOC have included this team for the games this year. They are better than everyone gives them credit for. If they win to get into the second round at the games then we should see further rise in the female participation in football. Netball is going to suffer another hit from football.
