As well as the prize money available Valcke said that FIFA would provide 24 million for clubs whose players take part in the tournament.

"Every club who has a player at the World Cup will receive $1600 (964) per day, per player," Valcke said. "The money will be paid 15 days before the start of the tournament and to one day after the players' participation in the World Cup ends."

Means the nix will cash in around $350000 USD. Not too shabby

The payout for the clubs will be US$1600 (NZ$2205) per player per day they are in South Africa, starting one week before kickoff until the day after their team is eliminated.

For the Wellington Phoenix with seven or more players in the squad this could add up to more than US$325,000 (NZ$450,000), even if the All Whites do not progress past the first round

this keeps getting better and better....

Nice shot in the arm for the Phoenix($450,000. Plus Wellington FC will get $47,000 each for Bannatyn and Barron.

plus if the AW's get through to the second round(miracles do happen) its another $8 million USD

Not sure about Team Wellington.  The players in question will probably be on Petone's books by the time of the World Cup.

The amount paid is made on a pro-rata basis depending on where the player has played for the last (from memory) two years. If someone transfers just before the World Cup, their previous club would get most of the money.

The maths about how much the Phoenix will get is looking very dodgy indeed.  I've seen numerous figures.  Exactly how many days will we be in South Africa (and eligible for this money) assuming we get eliminated in the group stage?

Surely the FFA will be pocketing this & spreading it amongst the A-League Clubs?
