Elliott to sit on the bench to calm thins down should we be in a winning / drawing position. Just not quick enough to screen effectively at the highest level now in my opinion (could be wrong)

Still with Reid we may go back to a 4-4-2 type set up and then the team look will change quite a bit.

How on earth are people still calling for James to be played ?

He hasn't played a competitive match in 18 months and before that was playing in Finland which is hardly world cup level football.

True but similar things could be said about other players just picked in the NZ training squad.  Tampere isn't that bad a side, I'm sure they would give the Nix a run for their money.

CORRECTION: Hard News

I seem to remember james played in the confederations cup (competitive tournament). I believe he then played one final game on his return back to Tampere before needing surgery on a knee injury that rumoured to have plagued him throughout the whole season. Apparently he recovered after the new year, and from I what I can read on the internet he came on in a competitive game for Barnet not too long ago after joining recently.

So to say he hasn't played for 18 months would make yourself come across as someone who is ill-informed or can not be bothered to research info on google (very simple) and just instead someone who posts silly comments with no thought.

And finally...if playing in Finland is obviously not WC level football, I can only assume that you suggest the A-League or NZFC is not WC level football either, from which the majority of our AW's are playing there football at the moment

Sorry.  38 minutes at the Confeds 12 months ago seemed hardly like playing competitive football but semantically, yes I'm wrong.

But, in the last 12 months he's played under 150 minutes of football.  Hardly enough to justify selection in a World Cup squad, even if you're playing in the worlds top leagues, let alone League 2.

Like the look of it, except I'd still be tempted to try Wood as a starter... like his extra pace and mobility.

Would be good to See McG start. We need some spark in the center of the fireld.

How quick in Reid..? Siggy wouldn't stand a chance against the Slovak and Paraguayian speedsters, and with three at at the back gives them more room to move around our defenders, so i hope Reid can stop them getting there first.

I will eat a (very) small piece of my all white shirt is winston reid plays as a midfielder in the opening game of our world cup. By all reports he is an exceptionally talented CB, but to put him in the midfield (when you havent even seen him play at the back in Herbert's case) would be massively left field. I am not sure if he has ever even played there for his club side. WHen I asked the FCM fans where he could play that were determined he was a centreback's centreback who could possibly do a job at right back if absolutely necessary, but that it would be both a waste and a risk.

the idea  is to release  a flair  old-fashioned  number  10 , behind  the 2 strikers  someone very quick and  fast   as  Mc G.....for  me  and  for  the manager  is easy to motivate someone like  mc G,    i would  give  him the number  10 shirt i would tell him  " have  fun "

                                  Paston

                 Siggy        Nelsen        Vicelich

                        Reid            Brown

Bertos                       McG                      Lochead

                        Wood      Killen

I would like to see Smith get a start at CB but i can not see Ricki going past Viceliches experience.

Arguebly Wood and Killen are our two best strikers in my opinion and should be given a nod.

Other than that, possible Brockie to start on the right and Bertos to play central with Mcg dropping to the bench.

At the World Cup the remainder of the squad not starting in the game are on the bench.

So you technically get 12 subs.

I think we'll see something along these lines, although the personnel may not be the same (especially among the centre backs and the forwards).

The friendlies will be used to sort that out.

And can you choose any of the 12 to sub during a game?

Yes, that's why they're on the subs bench.

That is fascinating. Would keep the whole team on their toes, if there was a possibility they may go on at any stage. Will we see them all kitted up ready, do you think? (Apart form Moss for the first 2 games)

What other innovations are we going to see at the cup??

It's not really a new thing - it's been that way ever since I can remember, and the same deal applies to EUROs and other continental championships.
