these are some of the New Zealander's who have a realistic chance of moving after this world cup:

  • Pasty - there is a lot of talk of him going to Arsenal (mainly by me, but is a super piece of rumour-mongering) but realistically can see him going to a championship club, or being back up keeper at a premier league club.
  • Nelsen - potentially to a bigger premier league club?  He was immense for the 3 games, so there must be interest, but will be interesting to see if Blackburn will sell.
  • Reid - Premier league or Serie A - will happen.
  • Tommy Smith - not sure how much he was playing at Ipswich, so maybe on loan to another championship club or league 1
  • Elliott - has no club, but could pick up another contract if he wants it (it has been mentioned on here before that he will want to stay in LA due to partner)
  • Brockie - I think has already moved to Jets
  • Smeltz - Will go to Europe as has passport, or maybe asia
  • Fallon - another championship club
  • Wood - possibly on loan to championship club
  • Herbert - will have loads of offers and can pick and choose where he goes

potentially 10 people moving to new clubs after this WC (I think about 7 will happen) - I wonder if any other team will have as much?

Harry Redknapp wanted to sign Nelsen, when he was at Pompey. He's always been a fan. Maybe a move to Spurs, but as he is well liked at Blackburn and aging I don't think it will happen.

Heard a Smeltz to Fulham rumour the other day.

Three for me, and two for them.

Surely a step down.  Even from Gold Coast.

Bertos was mention by Ricki as another player to be picked up as well, now that he has proven to be an useful wing-back as well as a winger. Maybe as chance at league 1 or even championship perhaps? I rather have him than say Fallon because he does nice things with the ball on the deck.AllWhitebelievr2010-06-27 23:39:14

I thinbk Fallon may have done himself a diservice with his performances. ok, swinging arms is part of the game but in the 2nd two games the opposition deliberately targeted him and that feature and basically worked him out of the games as a result. That style of play might be acceptable at Championship or League one, but not at a higher level. Killen did a lot of running and the odd shot but I think he'll stay at Middlesbrough. Wood, he'd be wise to stay at WBA and progress in relavtive anonymity. Smeltz, he might do alright at Championship level. He wouldn't get the time or space any higher. Although having said that, he'd also get better service right on the end of his foot at the higher level.

Clapham to the Jest, or possibly the Furries. Sad not to see him for the Nix, but the more pro Kiwis the better.

Sir Ryan would make a natural replacement for the broken Ledley King at Spurs.

I would be more than happy to rubber stamp this move on behalf of the board of directors.

Really hope Clapham gets something - such a likeable character and seems like a great bloke.

Looks like there is a bit of interest. I hope the Nix get in there first.

Need to remember that the Nix have had him on trial, and Ricki has just spent 4 weeks with him.  If we don't sign him then I think we can assume we've decided he isn't a fit for us, or more likely accepted he won't get game time here and is better off like Costa going to a club with a youth setup.

Or he just got a better offer...

A sad, but very important point.

Would prefer Reid playing week out in the Serie A, I believe Palermo was the club he was linked with before the world cup.

No problems with Clapham to the Jets and like the fact they would have two Kiwis on board. My new second team maybe?

Based on what? - If he went to Blackburn he would play alongside Nelsen. Give New Zealanders an EPL team to support. Plus we would actually see plenty of tv coverage as SKY show more EPL than Serie A.

Yeah, let them develop him into an A League starter. Then we can sign him

It'll be good to see a Clapham-Brockie pairing in the A-League. I think the last time those 2 played together was for Federation 6 (Mainland) at the national U-16 tournament, back in 2003, where they were unbeaten.

The A-League isn't Australia v New Zealand, so I don't get this, just as I don't get why people chant "same old Aussies, always cheating" (sometimes when an import player fouls even).

All this talk about up to 10 people being picked up by EPL, Italian etc is just spectulation. Nobody really knows.

This has been explained.  When you pull on a Phoenix (or previously a Kingz shirt) shirt you lose your Australian stigma.  Likewise, I believe even Smeltzy got a 'same old Aussies'...

What's wrong with any of what he said. Obviously looking at it from an All White fans view.

If Clapham isn't good enough for the Phoenix ofc we should encourage him playing at a professional level. I would love to have as many New Zealanders playing at a professional level as we can, especially young players. And you want to see New Zealands do well, unless they're playing against the Phoenix, which is justified when he said 'his second team.'

Haven't heart 10, but Smeltz and Reid's names have come up. If anyone suggests Paston to any top league I would highly doubt it, two good games doesn't make two seasons. He was poor against Slovakia.

From what Paston has said himself, hes not even considering a future in professional football. Not even with the Phoenix, didnt he only sign a one year extension?
