Hi all,

A little something I'm sure you'll all appreciate - further evidence which puts the vastly over-rated tournament currently taking place in this country into true perspective.

IRB World Rankings as at 5 September indicate there are 93 countries which play r-word.

FIFA World Rankings as at 22 July indicate there are 129 countries which play women's football, and a further 43 countries which have a provisional ranking or which have been inactive for more than eighteen months.

Cheers,

Why do people keep comparing sports rugby v football.  I believe football to be a superior sport.  I also like rugby to a lesser extent , mainly interested in the World Cup.  Just read about Eden Park transport fiasco, hopefully the WC won't be a flop !! but then again....

Can't stand rugby and refuse to watch any of it.  The only thing to come of it will be a good dress rehersal for 2015 when we host a proper tournament worthy of the name World Cup.

I hope the unwritten rule of Yellow Fever that states that "there will be no thread on the RWC, ever" stays in place through the next six weeks.

I'm guessing you live abroad, KiwiMalaysia42.

In NZ, we have to put up with r-word being shoved down our throats ad infinitum by myopic mainstream media, particularly at present.

They employ no sense of perspective in their reporting, and whenever the opportunity presents itself, they look to discredit the position of football as the game the world plays.

I, and no doubt many others who read this forum, have long had a frigging gutsful of their g0b5#1+e, and while it seems like we're swimming upstream in a raging torrent at present, it's stats such as those I've quoted which give us every reason to keep swimming against the tide, and not give in to the lies and BS to which we are subjected, the same lies and BS which NZ's gullible and great unwashed are brainwashed into believing is gospel.

Yes I live in Malaysia. Football is massive in SE Asia i.e. 50 000 gather in KL @ 3 am to watch FIFA WC Final.
Yes your points are valid and can understand the frustration down there.  Hate to be there if/when ABs don't win RWC.

PS Sorry Liverpool lost this morning damn.....  (assuming you are Liverpool supporter?)

Love those stats, will be passing those on to my work mates!

Is it true a Aroon Clansey and Abbey Erceg are joining the W-League this season?

Re Aroon and Abby, yes.

And at this stage, I wouldn't rule out the prospect of at least one more Football Fern heading west to raise the W-League's standards.

There may be another NZ rep of recent vintage involved too.

Thats fantastic. So glad so many of the football ferns that went to the world cup can now make a living from football.   Perhaps one day more women will be playing football than netball?
