59' - RED CARD - New Zealand goalkeeper Glen Moss is shown a straight red card for apparent dissent. There was a challenge by Osea Vakatalesau on James Pritchett and when the ball was finally cleared out of play, Moss went straight to referee Lencie Fred to have words. Fred told him to get away - Moss didn't and was shown a straight red.

Does this mean he's suspended from the WC qualifier against the Asian team?

Or only for NZ's next match (ie a random friendly)

Or not at all?

90' - GOAL ROY KRISHNA - Krishna makes it two for Fiji after some good work down the wing by Jone Vono. Krishna recieved the cross, took a clever touch around Steven Old and rifled the ball home from six yards out to seal the win for Fiji.

Very disappointing effort from NZ. Even if it was a second-stringish side. So what happened with Moss?

Got one this season, and the ref actually apologized to me afterwards. I didn't even swear at him. Sad story

as  Marius said, not good for our ranking - which will make it harder to get good opposition for a/some friendly/ies prior to the WC play-off

v. poor result-top qualifiers should never drop points, even in 'dead rubbers'.

it undoes so much good work around NZL football's reputation, let alone ranking

Bulletin on NZ football's site.

Sounds like we were pretty hard done by with the card, and a number of chances in the first half. sh*thouse result, even with second stringers.

Sounds like Vakatalesau was up to his old tricks. His play was a bit like that for YoungHeart last season.

Just a small educational clarification on the Laws of the game.

You are shown a yellow card for showing dissent by word or action
You are shown a red card for using offensive, insulting or abusive language and/or gestures

Based on the history of Oceania refs do we think there is any chance he knew the rules of the game ?

In a sense I am relieved the All Whites lost.

If Barbarouses, Draper, and Mulligan aren't even good enough to get on the subs bench at club level, (and Christie is at best a sub) in competition matches, it is incongruous to think they can start in our national team  for A internationals. (And Old was let go because he wasn't even up to Phoenix squad level.) there is no mandate for them to be there.

Spoonley is a reserve at his club. Pritchett has just come back from injury and was a sub for Auckland v waikato last week.

It puts pressure on not to pull a stroke like this again, and for the national coach to act like a national coach rather than a club coach with an agenda on the side.

As an All White fan I'm frustrated i can't make a more considered judgement on the merits of some players because at club level they are not deemed good enough to play. Yet they turn up in the All Whites. This shows complete disdain for the All Whites shirt.

When was the last time Draper was chosen at club level in a competitive match, at any level? As far as i can make out, he has never played in competition for the Phoenix, or for any NZFC team.

Our lack of fandom at All Whites level allows the coach to pull strokes like this. This in turn leads to a lack of media scrutiny, where nobody asks the hard questions. At least after a loss, questions demand answers.

I agree with you Bruce.  I know hindsight is a great thing but International Football is not a game where you can have too many players making debuts? The midfield looked lightweight and I can't believe a player like Jeff Campbell didn;t start when the team was so inexperienced.  I does ask the question...Have the young players gained from this experience or are they simply not good enough?

Marius is right; massive drop in rankings = loss of pride, press embarrassment and work permit difficulty

Bruce, you are also spot on and Herbert has little defence to what you have said.  He even acknowledged to not knowing much about Aaron Scott.  How could the national team coach not know much about his country's olympic captain?

Some other issues:

- Overlooking a host of available Phoenix first teamers is not on - this was a world cup qualifier FFS.

- Fleming, Banks??? Do we have a policy of overlooking over 25s?! In world cup year!?

- There was no left back in the squad.
